Exclamation Gas mileage with your TT 3.76????

Ok guys! I hit my bonus for work from last month and I'm looking for a TT rear end. What type of gas mileage difference should I expect to see once I have this mod installed??? I drive mostly in the city, but when I'm on the highway I cruise at a constant 80-85mph.

That cruising speed will hurt you with that setup. Bring that down to 70-75mph (3500rpms +/-) and arrive at your destination 5-10 minutes later. I don't drive that much highway and I lost around 2mpg but that is also due to the fact that I have a high stall TC. To counteract this MPG loss I suggest putting in a brand new K & N filter (not cleaning it over and over again)...these filters are cheap enough to do this (~$35).

with tc and 3.76 gear lsd, at 75mph, you see 3500rpm?! if so then you really need to get your car checked out.

with the lsd, instead of the normal ~2800rpm, it should be around 3000rpm for 80mph. your rpm is way high

Sorry, I meant at 80-85mph (you will be at 3500+/- as Kev mentioned previously is his highway speed. I just checked this morning...70mph I'm at 2700rpms. w/stock GS400 tranny, 2900 stall PI TC, 3.76 LSD. 80mph is more like 3100rpms whereas 85mph is probably around 3400/3500rpms...not sure I'll have to check and get back to you guys.

At any rate I was trying to convey to Kev that if he travels long highway distances (with this setup at 85mph) at a constant rate of 3400/3500rpm's he will EAT gas like no other... All in all it's not that big of a deal if you can afford an extra fill-up every month! Just my $0.02

I don't take my car on any long road trips so I'm ok there! If I go out of town I usually drive a car of my lot and then I don't have to worry about the extra wear and tear!

GS300's came with 3.92 gears (open diff.)
GS400/GS430's came with 3.23 gears (open diff.)

***No LSD was offered as stock for the 2nd gen Lexus GS.

One way you can/will be able to tell if your car has an LSD is if your car puts down 2 even patches of rubber/skid on the payment from a launch.

An open differential (rear end) will spin both for a very short period of time but then all (or almost all) of the power will go almost exclusively to one wheel.

I recently purchased a gs4 with the 3.72 lsd in FL. Cruising at 80mph leaves the revs at just about 3000.

On the drive back from fl to md several weeks ago, I managed about 22/23mpg highway... would of been better had I not been buzzing along at 90mph.

Can't really comment on normal driving every day driving yet. Its been around 16mpg, but then again my commute is horrendous and I've been stomping on it a bunch, you know to make sure the lsd works.

Guys...be VERY CAREFULL on slippery pavement especially with this LSD and traction control off. The rear kicks out very easy...I should know by even just messin' around on dry payment...talk about getting sidways!!!lol

Actually, not really. I put down 2 nice patches when I had my stock open diff.

hmmm...I understand your point but with ONLY 5% TREAD WEAR LEFT there was really no reason for all the power to be transferred to the one wheel (like what a normal open differential would do) because both wheels were relatively free of friction... Try laying down two even patches like that with brand new tires and an open diff...it won't happen...
