Default A lot of exhaust threads- trying to sort it all out

A relative newbie here (got my IS in Sept, don't post but read the info every day- GREAT STUFF and great education!!) so a question/comment to exhausts/ custom exhausts:

Seems everyone wants more power/sound/looks for their exhaust upgrade (myself included), the insatiable thrist for more power but unless you want to drop serious $$, not too much bang for the buck, so...

...since the only seeming value to Tanabe, HKS, etc. is minimal HP gain and really it's just astetics and sound, why not get two (Magnaflow or Borla or your choice) mufflers w/ new tips and call it a day? Better growl & looks. Seems better spent $$....

Looking forward to comments and thx!

Part of spending the money, in my opinion, is to have something that is relatively "proven" and the convenience of having a bolt-on product, which you already know has been tested, is suitable and what not. You do lose some of these things when doing a custom set-up, though you might save money and see better gains.

I encourage you to do it though because you may find something great and be able to share that with the rest of the community as some have already done.

Default Exhaust- the verdict

So, final decision- CUSTOM:

After secondary cats, going all Magnaflow: X-pipe, mufflers, 4" double walled ss tips w/mandrel bent piping. Hope to do in the next month, will let all know how it goes...

Had great success with Magnaflow on my 2001 Mustang GT and belonged to a Stang forum where almost everyone went Magnaflow with great results so I'm looking forward to the changes for my IS250.
