Flashing the engine for more power?
I had a brief conversation with a guy who I believe said had a VW GLI and had the engine 'flashed' for more HP.
I've never heard that term but he said it was some engine computer imput changes that produced more power.
Can this be done?

Now that you mentioned the ECU,I think he said something about sending it out somewhere....
I'll find out more just for the hell of it.
Seems like no doubt void warranty issue.

If anyone ever cracks the encoding, it'll still be tough to decode what the engine is actually doing and get it to make more power.

You could leave your injector or ignition coil disconnected with the engine running and it will flash the check engine light for you when its misfiring too.
We already have a shift light no your tachs I'm not sure why you would ever need this mod.

The 2Gen IS300 sold in Asia & Middle East excluding Japan are w/o direct injection. With the main complex part out of the way, does this mean that the encryption is my biggest challenge? isn’t TOMs offering an ECU remap? Let’s ignore the fact that it is ridiculously expensive and only works on Japanese IS350s, I think the decryption method would be identical… I am really not experienced as all the remaps/reflashes I’ve encountered were simple plug&play’s.
If anybody can suggest something please pitch in.

I'm pretty sure the IS300 sold in asia is the same as the 06 GS300 3GR-FSE 235 hp engine. That engine does indeed have direct injection. It is the D-4 injection so it only has direct injection and no port injection just like the IS250's 4GR-FSE here in the states. The IS350 2GR-FSE is equipped with D-4S which is both direct and port inection.

Tuning software and recording data. Tuning with those two things and you can make it run better not just once but anyday if you wanted to. "Reflashing" I believe is just another way of saying tuning to make your car run better or more efficiently.

reflashing a factory turbo car is a good easy way to make a significant increase in hp and tq. it basically increases boost and leans the wot a/f target some from the too rich but safe factory tune.
n/a cars it's not as dramatic, as the only thing you can do is lean it out a bit and maybe add timing. depending on how aggressive the factory tune is, n/a cars get 10-40 hp usually.
