What built tranny are you GTE auto guys using?
I'm doing some reserch on Built GTE auto's and I found a couple options.
I lost out on a used Boost Logic auto but I came across an SP engineering built auto and also a Level 10 built gte auto. I have only really found feedback on BL auto which has been pretty much all good feedback. Anyone running a different auto or have experience with any of these built gte auto's. I'm looking for something that can hold 600+ rwhp.........
Boostlogic says theirs are built to hold over 700+ but I got no feedback on level 10 or SP engineering.

i then asked the ownder of the Supra.. and it Appeared he was using a
Level 10 Gearbox.. and his out put was somthin like 640 rwhp !
not sure how far will it hold.. ! but yea !
at least its one reply.. heheh. !
Take cARe !

Thanx man.....As I speak to poeple I keep getting different answers on what this tranny can hold. I have a guy who can do a valve body upgrade on my tranny and I'm told this might be good for another 100-150 rwhp or so.? Looks like we don't have a lot of built auto gte tranny guys. So all you guys thathave done teh swap are still running stock gte trannies?

I've been in the Supra community for over 10 years, Level 10 and Art Carr were among the 1st to build the TT Auto's but there was allot of problems with them breaking. Sound Performance has a decent built tranny that was the standard, but I've had customers at my old shop blow that up on less than 700RWHP. From what I've read Boostlogics is the best, I don't have any expieriance with their tranny but I have known and bought / sold products to Kean @ Boostlogic for years, he is a stand up guy and you can take whatever he says to the bank.
Adam
Go for the Boostlogic #1 choice IMO.
The bottom line is no stock automatic built tranny will hold 700RWHP for too long if its drag raced, this is why the TH400 is used so widely, I've had customers who had the TH400's, although they're bullit proof there was allot of heat created and the car was revving about 3000RPM doing 60MPH on the highway, no fun at all. I hear Gear Vendors makes an overdrive unit for the TH400, you may want to look into that if you want something really strong.

I would def. go with the Boost Logic over Level 10, as Adam said people used to have issues with the Level 10 trannies.
A little bit off topic, Gear Vendors does have an overdrive unit for the TH400, I believe it makes it a six speed but I can't remember since it's been awhile since the install. Check with TTurbopimp, he has it on his car.

bluelex, there are also some other choices as well that are local.. there is a place called atf off of 595, they do supra trannies.. they have there own cnc and make cusom torque convertors and valve bodys..im not sure how much power you are trying to make but i can tell you ALL built trannies still break, its the sprag gear it just dosnt hold

You wanna go with the boost logic tranny. one of my good friends has a supra with a pt67 and uses the boost logic tranny. i believe the car makes 692whp. runs back to back low 10 second passes and 1.5 60ft. Ive talked to numerous people that have the BL with no issues. The BL holds up with no problems as long as you don't hot lap it at the track like 15 passes in a row.
The Th400 is a amazing tranny but you don't want that for highway driving. The gear vendors over drive kit is junk and requires alot of pain in the *** modification. Its made for heavy duty trucks and divides the gears in half so that when it shifts it doesn't bog the engine.

This is a long rant...but just my experience with an auto trans on this car with a high HP engine.
Stay away from IPT. I would not trust anything to them. I've heard of several horror stories where someone sent in a transmission to IPT. They sandblasted the casing and painted it silver. Then they claimed it to be built lol. It's not an isolated incident either. Or for some cars, all they do is put a few accumulator rods in to shift harder but do nothing to address anything else. The clutch packs were left stock as well. The upgrades they do are just "good enough" for the average person with a little added power that doesnt romp on it all day. Not for someone with an insane power setup that drag races it often. When it does finally break, they just blame it on that person driving the car too hard or had too much power. They don't expect their customer to crack open the transmission to take a look for themselves since that will void the $4500 upgrade warranty. A few of the people that have opened it up and ignored the warranty warning have been dismayed as to what real work was done.

It's not just them either. Several transmission "performance upgrade" shops do the same thing. They just upgrade the accumulator rods and leave most everything else bone stock. My motto is, if you want something done right do it yourself lol.
The transmission I sent off to PFS did not hold up for long at 450rwhp. So instead of sending it back to them to get warrantied...I decied to crack it open and have a go at it myself with the help of a transmission specialist that has been in the biz 15-20yrs building professional drag racing transmissions(my friends teacher at automotive school). I too was dismayed at what I payed $1500 for, but it was still much better than some of the other examples I've seen out there. The PFS trans upgraded consisted of: leaving the stock clutch packs in but they did however add in a few more clutch packs, 2nd sprag upgraded(but not fully secured in the housing so it cracked in half), accumulator rods, and possibly a valve body modification(can't tell for sure until I open that thing up). The transmission died because they missed an O-ring on one of the pistons in the trans. Due to that it didn't get enough fluid pressure and it caused every single clutch pack in the trans to get burned up and some of them even got hot enough to fuse together.
The new transmission I'm building is going to be done to the extreme. All the internals of the transmission have been cryo treated. And I mean EVERY freaking moving part in the trans has been cryo'd. Raybestos Blue racing clutch packs, raise the line pressure to increase clamping force, custom double sprag setup, squeeze in as many extra clutch packs as I can possibly fit, carbon fiber band, and a few other goodies.
I'm going to pushing this transmission to hell and back once I put it in my car. 700whp+ on the street every day should test the limits of this thing. And for the people that know me...I don't baby the throttle lol. Hopefully it will hold up for a little while. I'm used to changing transmissions every few months by now. None of the transmissions I've had so far have held for more than 3-4months

How is this custom transmission doing and what did it run you? I assume your building the 4 speed GTE and not the stock lexus transmission?

I was told the Supra TT/Aristo 4 speed wont bolt up to my 2001 GS300 driveshaft but when I had a look at where the driveshaft mounts to the transmission last night it looks as if the driveshaft end has 3 tabs with this bolted to it:
And the transmission has the same looking 3 tabs also bolted to the above piece on the other side. Really seems like I could bolt directly up to a Supra tranny with the exception of the shift linkage/ECU?

The holes on the GS rubber isolator sit more closer to center than they do on the Supra/Aristo making the bolt holes not line up. Your GS driveshaft will not bolt up to that. You can take your GS driveshaft to a machine shop and have the holes made a little bigger to be able to bolt up to the 4 speed. That is what I ended up doing because I didn't have time to wait or $400 bucks for a supra driveshaft at the time.
