The current piggy-backs are fine for DI engines that are NA. Unless you want to ADD fuel for an FI application, DI is of no significance.

I think that their is some confusion about the piggy-back. A piggy-back has no way of directly controlling anything. It is only able to change the current values that are being seen to & from the stock ECU. So a piggy-back will never control injectors PI or DI. Now their are many standalone ECU's that can be wired as a piggy-back and will directly control both our PI & DI. I.E. Motec and Haltech. They both have had processors on the market for @ 5 years now that control direct injectors.

Yes, it is hard to keep it all straight. The AEM FIC is one exception to your statements above. As you know, most simple piggy-backs just modify the I/O signals from the sensors (cam, crank, MAF, etc...) and tweak the fuel and timing accordingly.

The FIC can 'intercept' the injector drivers and drives the electrical load directly. However the thermal power requirements for driving this DI load are much greater then PI due to the current requirements as well as the multiple actuations of the injectors per each engine cycle. So some work needs to be done to drive them directly which would be needed for boost applications.

those guys at CP-E come up with some good products and I'm planning to talk to them about possible stuff for our cars.

It looks to be a very simple piggy-back type device. Just modifying the MAF signal without anything else. The A/F sensor control is a good idea for closed loop operation. I can't comment about the company however.

In general, I would want somthing with much more capability. I.e. Direct Injector Drivers, Timing, Throttle control, A/F control.

That device is just a wideband O2 controller, and doesn't seem to have any integrated / closed loop features with their piggy-back. If it did, they would have said it much more clearly.

My piggy back is mostly just a PITA since I never productionized it. It is no longer self-tuning since I haven't had another WBO2 sensor bung welded into my HKS exhaust. It also causes my car to stall ever so often on startup since 1 of the 2 microcontrollers doesn't boot up quickly enough to keep the motor running. It also still takes up half of my rear seating capacity.

Half the rear seat? That ain't a piggy back, it's a hunch back!

When I say it takes up half the rear seat, I just mean that nobody can sit on the driver's side of the rear seat due to my wires and 2 microcontrollers. You can sea what I'm talking about by looking at the piggy-back link in my sig.
