Default New custom exhaust underway for my 430!!!

So after driving around for about a year in my GS with straight pipes I have learned that straight and unrestricted is not always better... Its louder than any other lexus i've ever heard but my car feels really sluggish off the line and performs well up top... So with my current setup starting after the stock manifolds I have the oem hollowed out cats coming out of that is the stock diameter pipe to the o2 sensors... After the o2 sensors is 2.25 pipe to a 2.5 inch custom x-pipe then back to 2.25 pipe all the way out to some resonated tips... Sounds awesome but no back pressure means no low end torque... So I already ordered my new setup which is gonna start with S&S headers out to Magnaflow Hi-flow cats then its gonna be 2.5 pipe to the same 2.5 x-pipe from before then more 2.5 pipe out to Magnaflow XL Turbo Mufflers out to some oval shaped tips (non-resonated) I'm pretty freakin excited!!! Can't wait to hear and feel what its gonna be like...

Here's a couple of pics of my current setup and a couple of pics of the items that I ordered...

I dont know if anyone has had problems with there S&S headers for their lexus, but I had a set on my 3.4l ga and they started to flake in less than a year and I did not drive in the winter. I tell you what best performance bolt on I had, unbelievable how much different the car was.

So you are saying that the SS headers WERE or WERE NOT the best performance bolt on you ever had aside from the flaking? Sorry had trouble reading your last sentence.

Well... first of all I applaud your enthusiasm. It is fun to modify cars. Now the bad news. I doubt you will like your new setup. Sorry.

I do NOT recommend hollowing out the catalysts. This makes for a noisy and poor flowing exhaust especially for the low to mid rpm ranges.

Straight pipes work much better than hollow cats but the stock cats actually help low to mid RPM power. How? The act like a one way valve letting the high pressure flow out and stoping the reversion pressure from getting back to the exhaust ports.

This is NOT about backpressure in the way that most people think.

Dual 2.5" pipes will not help your cars performance. That is more than the needed capacity for peak power and will only hurt velocity at lower RPM and therefore hurt power for the majority of the power curve.

From the perspective of a daily driver where snappy off line performance is desired it is hard to improve upon the stock mandrel bent factory Y pipe. After the stock Y pipe dual 2.25 pipe to almost any final muffler is ok. I really do not like the magnaflow X pipe. Works ok on 5 liter or bigger engines but on small engines like ours is not helping.

Best of luck on your project. If you can locate a stock Y pipe (and cats ideally) that is my recommendation.
