Default Turbo vs. Swap

Okay guys,
I have a 2003 gs300.
I would like to get it up to about 400-450 hp.
I was thinking about going with the Swift Racing Turbo kit and bulding up my motor from there. I hear that once you hit 350hp that you need to have your trans rebuilt or something.
Then I was thinking about doing the 2JZ-GTE swap, but thats like 280hp.

So do you guys have any suggestions on what I can do?

na-t.com isn't working... i'm thinking about turbo'ing my NA engine but how many lbs can it safely handle? I'm not looking for anything extreme either.

A N/A motor can run a max of 8lbs safely on pump gas. If you do a headgasket you can run 10-12 lbs safely on pump gas. Doing a basic setup on a NA motor is going to be cheaper up to a point. Once you decide you want to make big power (and trust me, you will want to) you are going to be spending more to get over the limitations of the NA motor.

Your call, people have made good power either way. Personally I went with a swap and a basic single setup and have been making roughly 585hp at the crank (465whp) for two years now with no issues.

The site is www.clubna-t.com or try the IS site but don't have a link for that one.

One thing that blows me off about these kits is the fact that the cold side of the intake going into the throttle body goes right over the turbine, which heats the air back up before it goes into the motor. It's not a very efficient setup.

Why not just get turbos, hard pipes, and manifolds off a 2jzgte. You could probably pick the entire system up for less than $600 used plus all the things for fuel management. Check out supraforums.com there's always some for sale.

the throttle body is heated using engine coolant anyways to keep from icing in the winter. obvioulsy the turbo does heat the air more, but just as a quick FYI, the air would have been heated in the first place. there is a way to bypass it, but it's a bit involved unless you're comfortable with ripping apart your dbw setup.

Because they don't fit on the Ge head, been gone over 1000 times.

Secondly, it's not like the air is just sitting stagnant in the piping, the air is moving very quickly. The amount of heat that would actually be picked up from that one little section crossing over the turbo would be practically nothing.
