Easiest way to make power for less?

Alright. I'm thinking about going to this
http://www.swiftracing.com/SRT/item.aspx?id=82
would I still need to get ic piping and a downpipe for my car?
Also, this includes EVERYTHING for my conversion?

That kit would work for the most part. If you talk to Mo let him know it's for a Gs and he will probably modify the pipes to fit the Gs as the Is is similar but not the same. From what I can see it includes pretty much everything you would need.

GTE vvti swap FTW
then you could go the jefftsai route and drop the twins for a big ol' single
definitely make sure you upgrade the tranny....or you could go the jefftsai route and roast every clutchpack in one high speed run.
it ain't cheap, personally i'm beginning to plan for a GTE vvti swap and leave it the ***** alone once i do besides exhaust and maybe bumping the boost a touch.
you'd be surprised at the difference suspension makes in the overall performance feel of the car. Bushings, coilovers (even though you have springs already, dump em and get coils if you can), sways, LCBs, RCAs, STB's, i could abbreviate all night but you get the point.

you rat bastard. haha i wish i had any money at all! it would go into the swap right away.
if you don't mind my asking (and not to thread jack), just for the VVTi swap, not inclusive of your aftermarket goodies, what'd it run you? just so i can get an idea of what i'm in for hahaha
im hoping that within a year i'll have my 01 swapped on coils, maybe rims if i have the cake by then haha it's my way of saving money over buying a new car

I like this kit.
jcat_GS3:
I might do a swap down the road. but I don't want to screw with a swap right now.

First thing is I did the swap myself (with a buddy to help) about two years ago, that saved me alot of money right off the bat. I think I payed roughly $3200 for the swap, ecu, tranny, harness etc... You are going to need at bare minimum a basic fuel system, walbro pump, return line to the tank (Gs's are non return factory). That will run you around $200 in parts. If you are staying on stock twins you will need a downpipe fabricated, probably around $150 from a muffler shop. You will need a few parts here and there to make the tranny work, used driveshaft parts probably around $200. Mmm....off the top of my head thats about all you will need to do the swap on stock twins. That should be good enough to get you into the 350rwhp range through the auto. So total above is $3750 without labor, I'm probably forgetting a few things so make it an even $4000.
If you want to go single I would add another $3500-$4500 onto the base price of $4000. Right now I'm putting out the highest reported dyno proven numbers on a swapped GS on CL at 467whp. There are some people claiming higher numbers but I don't think there has been concrete proof of it though it wouldn't be hard to accomplish, I could break 500whp without much effort and without any more mods, I'm just running a VERY safe tune and rich a/f. So basically, at that rate your looking at about $8500 for a singled swap, the rest of the car, brake, electronics, suspension etc etc.... is additional.
Hope that helps for a rough breakdown.

Well this will benefit the OP as well since it's along the lines of what he was looking into (turbo kit etc..).

Whered you get your swap and how hard was it to do?

I honestly don't remember who I got my motor from, I think it might have been Venus Importers but I really can't remember. It would be cheaper only if you did the swap yourself, if you have someone do the swap your going to be looking probably another $2000 in labor to do it. I think it was relatively easy personally but I have had so many Lexus motors out and apart it's no big deal for me to pull them and can do it quickly just from prior experience. If you aren't familiar with pulling motors etc....then doing the swap yourself could turn into a very big headache really quickly.

The guy who lives behind me is a mechanic and is currently swaping a grand prix motor, (same one, old blew up) and is putting a 400 big block in a firebird. So he's used to doing swaps. But I don't know if that would help with my swap .
Plus theres not really any shops around Pittsburgh that could do the swap if I get into a problem.

Yeah. I'm going to talk to him about it and ready DIY's on it and see if it's something to try

well you know what though 4k may seem like a lot at shock value, but even having a shop do it (i'm pretty sure through my connections from working at a dealership i could find someone to git er done for less than an additional 2k but at any rate) at 6k, think about what it is you're doing:
-you're getting a motor that has only 35-50k on it, when the 2jz is known to last hundreds of thousands of miles, even modded/high HP apps.
-the look on someone's face when you pull up in a 4dr midsize luxury sedan and you rev followed by BOV
-the look on that honda kid's face when you plaster his front end in a tire blanket off the light in that same luxo boat.
so by my plans, even spending 6k on the swap, even another 1k on d/pipe, a new TC and tranny parts, 1k on coilovers, another probably 750 on additional suspension replacements, and ballpark 1500 for a good set of 19's with tires, coupled with the 6k i spent to get the car in the first place, i'm looking at 16,250 to effectively give me 2 cars....averaging at 8125 per car.
for what i'm getting (2 years with a good, cheap, reliable daily, followed by another X years with a sweet sleeper that doesnt ride like a tractor), i'd love to pay 16k over the next probably 6 years, without having any accumulated debt from a depreciated car loan, and getting out of school and being able to put my salary toward getting rid of my student loans as soon as possible.
haha, i sound like a 16 year old who just got his license trying to pitch his plan to his father
i am actually glad that i finally was able to work all that out though. thanks for the inspiration fellas, and thanks macd for the figures

^^ that actually sounds like a good plan. Theres 2 kids in my town that thinks their cars are the fastest things around (an eclipse and a civic). You just made me want to get a swap and make them meet me at the track

macd, what kind of trans are you running? And also what kinda of dyno did you do the test on and what was the weather like?
