The ULTIMATE Turbo Q&A Thread!

to be honest i think you'd be better off with just a kit instead of a swap...you can find used kits pretty cheap now adays...you'll need to change your head gasket. this way you can be around 400 and when your ready to upgrade it wont be such a big blow...look at my.is for a used kit for around 2000 and then add parts you'll need to make 550hp

Since you say that you can have the swap done for about $5000
I would do that instead. Trust me turboing a GS300 will get expensive. I said this before and I will say it again you are going to spend a minimum of $8000 get it done.

okay, heres a question that i've asked before but is different
I'm still considering the turbo vs. a Swap.
I figure the swap to be about $2000 (not including installation which will be done by my neighbor, Standalone, anything else so about $4-5k) and will get me to about 280-300hp.
I figure if I go NA-T that it will cost me about $4-5k and will get me to 300-350 hp.
But my problem is, I'm not going to want to stay at 300hp . I know when I hit around 400 i have to get the VB upgrade and eventually upgrade my internals. But my power goals are between 500-525 hp.
If i do the swap I'd keep it stock twins for awhile and save up for an upgraded turbo, upgrade injectors, fuel pump, all the good stuff
So would I be better off in the end with a swap? If not, would my motor hold up at 500hp?
thanks and sorry for the long post

for the tranny get a vb& sprag upgrade along with a tranny cooler...for the motor get the TT pistons/rods/rings & a TT headgasket...that should only run u 1000...and your motor and tranny will be fine in that power range

hey jeff,
I'm going to be running about 8psi with my setup, and I dont think i am going to spend the extra money to go any higher psi before I first get some new wheels/suspension and second, swap a 5-speed manual in it. my question is, would stage 3 camshafts and gear do me much good with a 8psi setup. also what kind of power did you get out of your camshafts?
Thanks

The pump is actually a GSS342 walbro. The 341 is for Supras. It's the same pump but the filter inlet on the two are on opposite sides.
Stage 3 is way too aggressive for your setup. Unless you are aiming to hit 800+ HP. I have the Brian Crower stage 3 cams, but everyone here knows my power goals. Keep in mind to run stage 3 cams, you must upgrade the valvetrain. My suggestions would be to stick with stock cams for now, and upgrade to stage 2 in the future.

for the pistons, rods, rings & headgasket check the forums..i.e my.is, clubna-t, supraforums thats the cheapest route...i found mine for pretty cheap...for the VB & sprag upgrade you can go to SRT or PFS well there are other places but those are the main ones...make sure you get a tranny cooler aswell those are usually like 90-100 bucks (new) if you go on the forums there is a guy johnnyblaze selling one.

8PSI? For that you should just get a Gs400 or 430.
Do it right the first time or you will be doing it twice. I highly recommend to every one Make sure you upgrade your pistons and rods. It doesn't matter if you doing a low boost application.

This is a heavy car, at 8psi your car will still be some what slow.
At 15 psi is when the party begins. That should be around 400-450 rwhp, good enough to wipe out majority of the cars on the road. At 20 psi well you start hanging with the big boys 500+ rwhp. At 30psi 600+ rwhp forget about cars on the road and try racing bikes.

2005 gsxr 1000 some of the specs....
hinson slipper clutch (to be removed shortly i dont like it), TTS Road and Race Camshafts with Adjustable Cam Sprockets (to be pulled soon for a custom spec regrind), dynojet power commander, dynojet quick shift kit, arata exhaust, velocity stacks with a bmc filter, carbon fiber, carbon fiber, carbon fiber

Racing for me is out of the question right now. If po po catch me
going over the speed limit I am done. I highly doubt that I can beat a gsxr1000 but a 600cc I might have a chance.
