Yeah...I never asked that question (steel). Also, question on the bolts...why is it not recommended? What bolt is recommended (gotta find out before next Saturday)? I've seen the gasket... I just tossed it in the trash.

just me but i would just use some grade 8 bolts from your local hardware store remember its metric also use some antiseize on the bolts i would take a old bolt out to compare to make sure you get the right thread pitch

Yes, I had the conversation with S&S about stainless.

Stainless labor is not the same. Harder to cut, intersections need to be very precise for proper welding, backpurging is needed for proper welding, welding is harder and requires more time and stainless expertise and of course materials are more expensive.

Again, with all the labor intensive requirements there is a huge advantage to any foreign (China) source with nearly free labor.

S&S has been building headers for decades. Always mild steel. They are not set up for stainless in either materials or procedures. Getting a company to change what they do is unlikely. That said without S&S there would be no headers for our cars. The price makes them the least expensive power per dollar option for our cars. I would love stainless but the ceramic coating will make the mild last for longer than most will own their car.

Re-use the OEM bolts and studs at the heads. The supplied bolts for the cat flange work. Use OEM gaskets.

I bought new oem gasket...can I double up on it if the existing gasket is in good condition to help prevent leaks? I assume the O-Ring at the flange cannot double up...but I don't know for sure.

No. Never double up on gaskets. You can introduce leaks that way.

Thanks. Although it would make sense that when it's doubled up and compressed..it would seal much better...then again..I never took apart the GS. Ok, I will ask the guy to clean the area.
