Default Hp gains, is250

i have an is250 (obv. rwd) w/ a manual trans. and it's fun i'll admit, but i need sum more power :/. I am plannin' on short shift kit, intake/exhaust..but was seein' what little gadgets i could use. i looked around google and ebay and see more and more chips and was wondering what workss! one of my friends has an is300 turbo and is talking to a close tuner about fitting a turbo, but all the parts and tune and all will be $$$$ and i don't think it will push more than an is350 so its not worth it, and didn't get a 350 because im not an auto guy, shoulda got a g37 or 335 . what chips should i look into, or should i go to a local shop n go custom chips (im in the morris county area of nj)..time to drift w/ the snow, leave info!

you answered your own question. lol sorry to break it to ya, but there are only a limited supply of performance upgrades for 2gen ISs...

ecu/tuning mods aren't out yet...neither are turbos, nor engine parts...

so you're pretty much left with intake/exhaust/grounding kit.

haha, thanks for the posts, not gonna do a bottle lmao, ill kill myself. i was lookin at headers but i'm tryin to stay on the warranty side :/. i think im gonna do an intake/exhaust and check sum local shops for a chip/tune that can be reversed for service. im happy with the 250 manual, it floats my boat, jus need sum sounds n slightly better acceleration, n of course short shift will help ..next is a 3.0 turbo or 3.5+ straightt 6 haha..maybe save for a GT-R.....ahaa

Your car can not be chipped by a local shop.

There's one company, MHP, that has supposedly done an ECU reprogram for an IS-F, and they believe they can do 250/350s as well. They cost several thousand dollars. (I think their group discount price was $3900). Their first attempt on an IS-F added 15-20 hp...gains for a 350 would be lower, and for a 250 lower still. It was a first attempt though so they hope to do better, but honestly the cost is INSANE for the size of the gains.

Anybody else who says they can tune/chip it cheap is ripping you off.

Nothing you do to your car under $4000-5000, short of nitrous, will add more than 10 horsepower. Intake and exhaust together, if you don't mind having an illegal exhaust, will get you maybe 15-17 hp, for a cost approaching $2000... with a legal exhaust and intake you'll see 10-12 hp tops for around $1000.

The cheapest way, by FAR, to add hp to an IS250 is to trade it in for an IS350.

That's over 100 hp gain for 3-4k.

I know you're not an auto guy, but modern autos have come a long, long way... the fastest Porsche 911 in the world doesn't have a clutch pedal anymore.

When are the other tuning mods expected to hit the market, if ever?

my friend with the is300 turbo called his tuner in maryland n said that the turbo simply can't be done ..i'l deal for another year or 2 i guess, regret not gettin the is350, but gona do intake/exhaust, short shift kit, a drop n sum rims to look sexyyy ..obviously more than 3-4g's to put power into a 250 isn't worth it, i know i heard something about an fsport supercharger, but don't rely on me, i heard it at the end of an fsport IS review on youtube..if it's less than 3-4g's and provides 20-30+rwhp i'm in.

either super street or import tuner ran a segment on IS 250 intake and exhaust mods this month. Cool to see lexus tuning, and this way there is no BSing the hp gains. Exhaust and intake on a IS250 produced a wopping 5 hp. I am not impressed. When I drive the IS 250 loaner I like to red line shift in every gear to really get all I can out of the car because she seem a little light on the torque

When one uses both HORSEPOWER GAINS and LEXUS IS250 in the same sentence it pretty much doesn't make any sense. The two will never go hand in hand. You've just gotta come to the realization that no matter what you do and no matter how loud you make it you'll never have a fast car. And for this reason, I have my motorcyle.

the way only to increase your car horsepower is to get an intake and a full cat-back exhaust. If you are willing to sacrifice your warranty then get a header.

Yes and the end result will be a lot more noise and a little more horsepower, plus a significantly lighter wallet.
