Look at this thread.
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/per...-the-shop.html

The y-pipe in the ebay site is from that point on to the exhaust/mufflers. there is a big difference between the two peices (not just talking about the price).

They're different parts

The $170 unit from Hybridynamics replaces the OEM y-pipe up front. The $350 set is from JeffTsai (according to ebay link) replaces the piping from the center resonator to the axle.

So basically getting the 2 different setup should gain you a little more HP. I am serously considering getting eithter one or both, because it's not the Horspower but the I am sure they would sound sweet on my GS430. Every exhaust shop I went to in my area are talking $800-1000.00 for custom exhaust. I am seriously considering it.

I was privy to the testing of a replacement 2.25" to 2.5" Y pipe on the first GS400 to get the S&S headers. I donated the actual merge Y itself on which the pipe was built (and watched it built). It gained 1 hp over the stock 50mm to 60mm Y pipe (1.97" to 2.36")

BUT

It made the car "feel" sluggish.

The Y pipe shown is a GREAT price at only $179 but I GOTTA tell you... I don't think it will make the car FEEL better to drive in fact I would guess the opposite.

It is REAL hard to get consistent back to back dyno numbers on cars like ours that have adaptive ECU's.

Thank Jbrady, I would get for the sound more likely. I bought the SC for all my power needs. GS is the weekend family cruiser. But would love to get more sound out of the L-Tuned Muffler, Or ditch them and put on some magnaflows.

with a moderate tune, I would expect a gain of around 16-20rwhp give or take a few. But if you want max tunning to extract every pony out of your setup, then I'd say 25rwhp. But the most restrictive part of the car is the exhaust manifold. I'd skip out on the exhaust on go for the exhaust manifold instead.

Especially the 430s with the single tube. I recommend headers with otherwise stock exhaust for best street manners. For more sound change out the final mufflers. Even more sound exchange the resonators for straight pipe.

...it's actually right on point. With an approximate 20% loss due to the drivtrain from 300hp (crank)...your right around 240whp (this article displayed 238whp).

All I know is that with the addition of the K&N FIPK intake, Torque Master plugs, Borla rear section and Apexi Neo; the GS400 will make approx 270whp. Trust me...I know from experience. Since then I added a new set of TM's, new Amsoil air filter (on the K&N intake), S&S headers and new Denso O2 sensors. I haven't made it to the dyno yet though. My previous threads on this are growing cob webs and I need to get there already and post some results!

Great article BTW to the OP!

Does ANYONE know of a current production S&S header that is cracked???

Since the change to thicker tubing and re-inforced welding I am unaware of any that have cracked.

Unless someone in China starts making them with slave labor and subsidized materials I doubt the S&S pricing is going to be beat.

While I agree that the price is slightly high, most people don't understand how much work it goes into designing a NA header. It is much more difficult because you have to work out all of the resonance pulses and scavenging effect to properly extract the most amount of power out of the car. This is one of the few areas where cost comes into play. The other is material and runner sizes and routing.
