someone confirm this for me (bypass cats/chip/etc for more power)
I was told by the mechanic at my shop that i gain horsepower by by passing my cat. converter, removing smog pump re-programming of the ecu and adding headers and fine dyno tuning...i was also knew of the headers prior to all this, i know that there is no chip for our car, but my guy tells me he can get it done. I'm aware of all the cons and i was told getting all this done will make a BIG day/night difference, can someone give me there two cents on this? thank you

In my experience, simply modifying the exhaust won't do much for you. Anything you do on the exhaust side of the engine should be complimented by flow improvements on the intake side.
That being said, I wouldn't do it. Its a lot of risk and work for minimal gain. If you picked up 15 hp from all of that, is it worth a voided warranty and reliability issues? Not for me... but to each his own.

your throwing money away if you do. no power gain, maybe power loss. and even IF you do gain you wont be able to feel anything anyway. the only way to get more power is the supercharger (still not worth it) or sell and buy an IS-F

It'd also not add enough hp for anybody to actually notice, and you'd fail inspection going forward in addition to being in violation of federal law.
He is, again, wrong.... There are no "chips" for the car that actually do anything. No headers designed for the car either. Find another guy. One who has a clue what he's doing preferably.

First, find a guy who knows what a "smog pump" is because our cars don't have one. Smog pumps haven't been around for years.
Also, as Kurtz has said, it is a federal crime to tamper with the emission controls on any vehicle.

"It's got a brand new ECU chip installed last December which increases approximately 70 horsepower. The overall horsepower I'm sure is more than 290hp. (exhaust, intake, ECU CHIP)"
