Ok I'm a dweeb and have ran the car with the exhaust unbolted in front of the third cat (I guess) the one that basically meets the 2 pipes into 1 then back to 2. Sounded mean but caused a noticeable loss of backpressure so I stopped that.
Now i have been running no mufflers sounds good and have decent back pressure. I'm wondering a couple things I plan to do custom exhaust basically from the first 2 cats straight back no silencers no mufflers just tips. But I read somewhere x pipes are kinda a necessity is this true and y?

Nobody nothing? I just read that backpressure being neccessary is a myth. For old carburated cars it may have been but the article said that most cars computers can adjust if the car is not running properly....
Also what size piping wouldn't 3" be a bit much and have no lower power as opposed to 2.5"
heres the article

Anywho i just want to make sure I can run dual straight pipes basically without too much of a problem

Not sure about the straight pipes or not, but I basically cut everything rear of the 1st resonator off, fabbed up 2.5" piping to 2 Magnaflow mufflers, sounds sweet, little more power, and much cheaper than buying a prefab catback. Nice rumble at idle (stock vette volume) at WOT sounds awesome. Didn't try cutting out the 1st resonator, sure if you did you would get more "volume" but you may have to deal with resonance on the highways.
BTW any exhuast shop should be able to do this for you.
