Think I have Exhaust leak
I have a 98 gs400 and have noticed lately when I have the windows down that when I rev it up a little there is a put put put kind of sound comming from passenger side fender. Sound like a exhaust leak. cant hear it at all in car. and motor is strong as hell for have 175,000 miles. No cel either. Let me know what you all think and how much is it to have new exhaust put on. or what you all suggest.

same problem with my 99 gs400 with 110,000 miles. Not sure if i want to replace the pipe or get it rigged from an exhaust place. my leak is right past the second cats going from y into the single part.

Block the end of the pipe with a wet cloth or something else and check to see how many leaks you have by looking where smoke is escaping along your pipe. If the hole(s) aren't too big you could get them welded as the cheapest longest lasting solution. There are other products(wraps, JB weld) but they may not last as long. Price for new pipes depends upon how much has to be replaced and if you want S/S. If you plan on keeping the car long, new pipes would be best.

ok listened to i more tonight. when under the hood i cant hear it when revving engine. have to rev and lay down by pass tire. can hear it when motor starts to die back down to idle. kind of like vrooom then pstttt. sound like a plastic bag rattling. i looked after i revved it and it sound like its coming from where the headers come to the pipe right before cat or resonator. what ever is first if that makes sinse

It would really help if you could put the car on jacks, at least the back of it. Then get under there and really do a close up inspection. I just took whole rear section of exhaust off my 2001 with 32,000 to put on a Tanabe Medalion Touring. From the front pipe (which is after the header/manifold) there is a donut gasket sealing the next pipe (y pipe) to it. Then the y connects via donut gaskets to the two mufflers. If it's that old, you could have a leak anywhere.
