If you bought your IS350 to add hp to it you bought the wrong car.

There's virtually nothing you can do to add significant horsepower to the car for any reasonable cost.

Nobody currently makes IS350 headers. A couple companies make IS250 headers that can physically fit on the 350, but I'm unaware of anyone who has recorded any gains from doing this.

Mazzuri tried two different experimental header designs for the 350 before going out of business, neither added measurable hp (there's some debate about if it maybe added some torque, but it was never cleared up, later cars had CEL issues, and as I say he since went out of business)

An intake will add 5 hp.

An exhaust will add between 7-12 depending how illegal you are ok with it being.

And that's about it for bolt ons.

You can drop $6000+ on a supercharging it, for about 40 hp.

You can drop probably 1-2k on a really good, safe, nitrous setup and that'll add 50-60 hp, but only when you have the nitrous spray on.

You can put on lighter wheels/tires and reduce weight in other ways to make it quicker, though no more powerful.

Beyond that, time to trade up to an IS-F.

If the BMW is stock you won't need anything...his heavy AWD system'll slow him down so learn to launch properly and you'll be fine.

If you really want you can put on a Joe Z intake and axle-back exhaust like the tanabe that'll put an extra 12hp or so at the wheels for around 600-900 bucks (600 if if you find the tanabe used)

The bad news is he can up his boost pretty easily and there'll be nothing you can do to your car to keep up with that... your only option then besides buying a faster car is to keep a record of how often his is in the shop and point out yours is faster by virtue of it actually running more often :P

Kurtz covered just about everything..
Your friend may have been thinking about the Mazzuri Headers for the IS250, which yielded fairly substantial gains for the price.
