Can you start engine without intercooler installed?
Well, Im almost complete with my aristo swap(2jzgte vvti). Im only missing a few things then its ready to go. The last two things which I cannot do by myself is the down pipe and the intercooler piping. I really need to get a welding machine.
My question is, can I start the car with the intercooler piping missing and no downpipe? I know some non turbo cars can run without the intake, like Honda's and etc. I dont want to trigger any codes or anything, I just want to start it to get the oil/trans fluid flowing to free up the pistons rings. At the same time to check for any leak or any other issues. Im also very anxious.

As Ropadopa said, if you're gona be using the JDM ecu which relies on MAP sensor then yes it will start and idle. If you're running on a setup that relies on a MAF sensor then the car won't even start up. If you were local to me, I could help you with the welding. I have my own TIG now

The 2JZ-GT(E) VVTi is a MAF motor no matter if it is JDM or USDM, unless you run an aftermarket ECU. If you rig it so the MAF is in front of the throttle body than the car should start. It probably won't run great but should start.

I dont plan to drive this car at all, as when I fire it up it will still be on jack stands. Like I said before, I only want to see if there is any leaks and to warm up the engine to loosen the pistons rings. This motor has not been fired up for about 3-4years...maybe more.
Im using the JDM ECU. Im getting two answers, its MAF and its MAP. Guess I will find out when I try to fire it up.

Ive heard both rumors, that the 1997 and below aristo uses MAP, while the later years...98+ uses MAF.
Does anybody have the correct spec on the aristo engine 1998+ if it is MAP or MAF base?

ANY 2JZ-GTE VVTi from an aristo (i.e. 1998 plus) is MAF. Before 1998 they were non VVTi and used MAP sensors.
