Default Custom Exhaust

I have been put into a dillemma between either a catback exhaust or axle back exhaust. I want the slight performance of a catback, but don't want to deal with emissions/smog certification come a few years time. This requires me to be left with an axle back exhaust, but I also don't want the drone. I want to do a custom exhaust that begins after the secondary cats, go to an X-Pipe right after, leading straight back to the two rearward mufflers, so I could just have dual exhaust and no primary muffler. Price wise it should be under $1k

What do you guys think, worth it, will be louder or will be droning like a ****?
I'm trying to see if I can get the PTS Exhaust Mufflers or Tanabe mufflers by themselves. Anyone have any idea?

Reason I don't want to go with either of these is smog certification. I don't want to mess with anything before the cats.

I thought Joe had a street legal vs that had cats on it so you pass the visual. If you go custom just have them slap a cat on it for you. What does CA go by for a visual anyway. If there is one pipe is that what they expect??

The JoeZ pipe is a street legal version for a sniff test, but from what I understand, it will not pass the visual, which is that they will see that you modified something in front of the cats, yet retain the cats. In the end, I am still confused as to what will and what will not pass a Smog Test in CA. Can someone with knowledge/experience please chime in with the legality of the Street version of the JoeZ Exhaust?

I dont live in CA but if you replace your exhaust and there are cats on it how can they fight that. They cant force you to purchase the OEM to replace with can they??

I hate the roads in IL but I will deal with that over things like this...

That's true, the worse they could do is fine me. Does anyone else have info/experience on smog testing?

If you pass the sniffer test within the parameters, they usually have no reason to check for primary or even secondary cats (if not present)...
They will look for the oem manifold with primary cats normally.

Also, first SMOG test on Brand New cars in CA, is 5-6 years...

Not something you really need to worry about right now...

Bottom line is of your SMOG tester sees you car is not passing the sniffer, they start visually "looking" for things..

Regards,

Joe Z
