An exhaust system is mostly for nicer looking tips and the sound. You will gain performance, but on a GS300 it will be very small. Maybe around 5hp or so for a full catback. That's why I said the stock exhaust is perfectly adequate. You can get a set of nicer tips welded onto the stock mufflers if you want it to look nicer. Now, if you have a turbo GS300 then the exhaust will make the difference of up to 40-50hp!

JeffTsai makes a strong statement. I played around with a couple of different exhaust and had some fun, loved the sound, but nothing seemed to make a performance difference until I slapped on a supercharger on the engine.

With that said, best might be a little subjective when deciding what step to take. IMO rely on looks and sound, not performance.

Thanks guys, right now its down to HKS or Tanabe MT. I am not looking for Performance only look and sound right now. I just want somthing that will be almost like stock at idel but give good sound when you step into it..

I have Borla and love it. My car is debadged and people swear it's a V8 until I show them otherwise. It seems to have the deepest sound/growl of all the exhausts on a 300.

EDIT: here is a video of my car: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqUEoayp53M

I can tell you that there are times where I am standing outside the car and am caught off guard by how deep and mean it sounds. The first time it happened I gave my car to a valet who drove off while I was standing there and as soon as he pulled away and I heard the deep rumble, I snapped my head around in disbelief that it was my own car.

I don't often get that chance since I am always driving

I have the basic Tanabe exhaust. It sounds great IMO. It's not ricey, it's got a low deep tone that isn't too loud...and doesn't seem to draw the attention of cops at all. It sort of looks like the stock exhaust but with bigger tips and blinged out, and it fits the cut outs in the rear bumper nicely. I got it for about $600 off e-bay.

I have 2 Megan Racing Mufflers with a custom 3" exhaust and the sound is great. Megan Racing is a fairly in-expensive company unlike ApexI or Tanabe? But Really with a inline 6 your not really going to get a ricey sound to your exhaust.

Im in the market for an exhaust and i like the borla the most because they arent too loud and ricey. But i also want more power. Im considering removing one of the resonators to give it a little power boost. I want a louder exhaust but not one thats too loud. Would removing the resonator make the car too ricey, and if i should take it off which one should i take off, since there r 3. Or is there a catback that isnt too loud?
