Ok guys, I was wondering whats my best approach to boost my gs. I want to get 400rwhp. Will it be over 5k? Either Na-t or swap. Sorry if this is some random post. I did search but found nothing for my particular question

For 400rwhp, just go with a NA-T setup. Upgrade the headgasket, fuel system, and transmission and you will have a pretty quick and reliable daily. Once you get the itch to go 500hp+ is when it starts to get really expensive really fast.

Also, I would suggest you go with a standalone for the car for the best operating consistency(piggyback tends to run better some days than others) and power. A piggyback will suffice, but you won't be getting the most out of your setup.

Jeff, Any Idea how much it would cost to get 400hp? I have no clue whatsoever, but its something I want to get me before I turn 22. Sorry if this has been asked before.

not to thread jack, but I've always wondered how adaptable is standalones....
Especially since I live in extreme temperatures (30'C+ in summer and -40'C+ in winter) and cross country often, so I can get from -40'C to 10'C within 24 hours.... and cross mountain while at it...

I think MVP Motorsports was $7k installed for a turbo kit. Or was it Mahdavi? I don't remember--I was maybe 6 months ago I was looking into it.

Srt makes a complete bolt on kit including head gasket, fuel upgrade and a Haltch standalone fuel computer, it's the best kit on the market for the money. It even has step by step instructions with pics.

the srt kit I believe is about 6k and all you need to buy is a boost controller.
You can also Piece together a kit. I'm piecing my kit together and would like to hit 400hp.
You can piece it together for less than the SRT kit. Also, if you want over 350 (which 400 is your goal), you definitely need to do some sort of tranny mod such as a valve body upgrade and a cooler.

Thanks for the replies, guys. If Im spending over 6k, might as well do a gte swap. It runs me about 4700k installed here in houston with 300rwhp. I just wonder how much it will cost me to get the extra 100hp? Any thoughts, comments?

Srt comes with a turbonetics boost controller. $4700 for a swap is a decent deal, you would just need to add a front mount intercooler, boost controller, usdm injectors with resistor pack along with a bigger pump, that will get you close to 400whp on stock twins.

I would plan for an extra $1000 if you did a swap, you may want to check on exactly what the shop is offering as $4700 installed sounds awfully cheap for a swap including labor.

I would say just go NA-T, why spend $,$$$.$$ on a 2jz when you already have one...

The motor part of a build is probably the most expensive part of a build. Going NA-T should be your best bet, try piecing out your kit to save you money and look for deals for the parts you'll need.

When you do look into doing the gte swap, you should also look into doing some maintainance work (timing belt, water pump, seals and gaskets) as you are technically buying a used motor from a junkyard.

I'm interested in wherre you could get a gte swap for 4700... cus I'd be interested. Also I saw a SC for sale in the classifieds and also saw an IS300 in a magazine sometime that swapped a GTE head... is that any cheaper?
