Default Intake Installation

Hey guys

Just wondering what is the procedure as to what to do after the intake install is done. Do i need to disconnect the battery for a few minutes, connect it and then go for a spirited drive to teach the ECU? or do i just let it sit idling once the intake is installed? This is a Fujita Short Ram by the way.

Thanks,
Yuriy

What you do doesn't really matter, there's no specific right/wrong way to do it, unless you somehow manage to catastrophically screw something up... As long as battery gets disconnected, so you can reteach the ECU how you want to drive, so it'll feel more spirited/faster. You can let it sit idle/warm up, and then take it for a spirited drive even if you want. It's just first hundred or so miles after the ECU refresh will be a learning process for it. Enjoy it!

You can also just not touch the battery at all.

The intake isn't a significant enough difference to really matter, and the ECU is -always- learning, so it doesn't really need to be reset for something like this.

Well through my experience I did the following.

1. Disconnect the battery for 20+ mins
2. Reconnect the battery and start the car running idle for about 5 mins
3. Stop the car and check if everything is tight and put back whatever needs to be put back.
4. Drive your car around however you like it for say 5 mins

Total waste of time. There's no need to disconnect your battery and reset your windows, sunroof, radio presets, nav destinations, etc.

20 minutes is also extreme. Just do this. It works.

Well there is a lot of way for everything. I was just recommended to do that.

??? This is from the service manual. There may be a lot of ways to do a lot of things, but this is what Lexus says to do. It's usually pretty sound advice, and certainly the guys working on the last airplane you flew on followed the instructions in their manuals or the jet didn't fly. Since I've also worked on jets and critical ground based systems I default to the documentation because it's almost always the best way to get the job done.

Default Fujita SRI

I literally just installed the same air intake yesterday in my 2007 IS 250 AWD. I did not disconnect the battery. It was also a very easy procedure if you follow the directions. The check engine light came on and the traction control was automatically turned off when I started it up after installation. The lights finally went off after about 5 miles of driving and turning the car off and on once. It seems to add a very slight twinge of acceleration (which of course could just be me). And, it sounds great at around 4-5000 RPM.
