What is the deal with throttle body spacers? Do they work? If so, wouldn't it be rather easy to produce? Basically just a block of metal at a certain thickness with holes through it for bolting up to the TB and the intake manifold. Right? Am I missing something else here? and why hasn't anyone done this yet?

Exactly, I want to do some more research on this. So far I have read that it somehow allows more air flow through the throttle body.

In theory it allows more air volume(displacement) inside the intake manifold. The increased displacement is supposed to increase the power of the engine. Wether it works or not, I don't know because I haven't done the research on any of that. The more effective mod is to put on a intake manifold spacer. That significantly increases displacement inside the manifold. I know a lot of 350Z/G35 guys do that and they gain a pretty healthy chunk of power, around 15hp or so I think. I have to research in depth as to the dynamics of how it increases power to understand it fully, but I'm too busy at the moment researching/developing into how to make more power from turbos!

TB spacer helps on the VQ35 because they have a tendency of not getting enough air at the rear cylinders in relative to where the throttle body is. the spacer helps the air to reach to the rear cylinders and recover hp that should have been there in the beginning.

My buddy has one on his dakota r/t and it makes a crazy whistling sound. Other than sounding like a leak or something in the intake system it doesn't seem to do much according to his input about it.

I think the one he has is rifled, which is probally where the whistling comes from.

The headers and full exhaust on the other hand made a significant improvment in realworld power and response.

I personally don't know much about 'em, but that gearheads around here laugh at them. I guess if Lexus wanted to pull worth-while horsepower out of the engine this easily, they would've done it. And if the mod worked that well, everyone would have one. Just opinions; sorry, no data.

I know the 5.0 mustang and LS1 guys use these spacers after the throttle bodys, as well as the 5.0 guys use the intake mani spacer as well. It might be a little difficult to be able to have the intake manifold pattern made, as apposed to a TB spacer.

A little pony article....
