Default Houston area GS4xx owners with torque converters

If you live in the Houston area and have a GS400 or 430 with a Precision Industries torque converter would you PM me.

I am trying to decide on what stall I want and would appreciate checking out your cars drivability.

Thanks,

John Brady

wow...I never noticed ALL this time, you're in TX. Crazy! I dont have a PI tq converter though...don't know what JPI put in there to be honest. I've taken everything he did out thus far.

I know you have a 400 but I have been hearing on that the max you should run is a 2650 RPM stall for us 430 people as to avoid a CEL.

Well, even though I have followed Precision Industries since seeing a press release on their billet converter housings back in the early 90s... and knowing how a 3500 stall reacts on the street (not recommended for performance street sedans) I have YET to drive a PI converter equiped Lexus.

You are correct in that the 2650 stall recommendation for the 430s is due to check engine light issues I do not believe that is a problem for the GS400s and they typically run 2800 stall. For my LS400 I may even go lower, say 2500, depending on how I judge the drivability of a 2800 and hopefully a 2600.

So, anyone in Houston that would consider meeting up to help a fellow CL member make the best choice I would DEFINITELY appreciate it. I am about to create a high flow high velocity torque preserving Y pipe for my LS400 that could easily be adapted for GS4xx use and my gratitude could extend to creating a second pipe at cost+.

I'm not in your area J but I would highly recommend this mod...I have closer to 3000 stall TC (2900 to be exact from Precision Industries). Drivability is fine...You don't really notice it too much unless you hit it! Also, one minor thing that I did not like that "I" noticed with my setup. I had the gears and the TC done at the same time and if I don't keep an eye on the RPMs I could be closer to 3000 when only at 60mph! It's almost like the gear holds if I am just coasting (very minimal acceleration) on the highway. So when I notice this I give it a little more gas or a little less gas and it either shifts up or down and the RPM's go to where they should (correctly matching the car's speed). It's a littl bit of a PITA but I am use to it now. It is always around the 3000rpm mark. I spoke to a tranny shop and they said it's because of the stall on the TC, perhaps something to do with the lock-up on the TC.

NOBODY in Houston has a Precision Industries torque converter?

Anyone that knows someone that may or may not see this post I would appreciate them sending that person a PM and have them contact me.

I have and will continue to try to contribute to this community. I hope I am not asking too much.
