Default IS 350 Stock Airbox Top Mesh

Does it make any difference to remove the mesh from inside the stock airbox lid? I have a K&N drop in filter and was wondering if it is worth it to take out the mesh part as well.

I'll be installing my new Joe-Z intake pipe when it comes on Wed!

probably not noticeable enough. that, and the mesh ensures that nothing particle-sized that wasn't caught by the filter will end up in the engine cylinders.

Agreed. You're not going to see any performance gain and its an added layer of protection. I'd leave it in place and enjoy the JoeZ tube for what it is.

I shall leave it in place then. Thanks for the input!

It has been dynoed to a 1hp gain from removing the charcol media.

If your going through the trouble of adding an intake pipe (JoeZ) and drop in filter I'd take a sec. to rip it out. Maxamize right?

if you remove everything, you risk larger particles getting sucked into the engine. and all that, for just 1hp?...

not a particularly tempting trade-off, but to each his own.

You sure?

I'd have sworn it actually showed a loss of about that much when tested.

Guys - it's a charcoal trap for ULEV emissions. It does not filter the air going in, it traps hydrocarbons getting out during the SHED test. If you remove this trap you will never pass California smog. Caymandive also told us removing it was an instant 1 peak hp loss in his IS350. Strange but true.

Showing +/- 1 HP between dyno runs doesn't neccessarily mean anything... margin of error and all that.

Might as well leave it in.
