K&N Cold Air Sound
Has anyone installed a cold air K&N kit. It runs about $300. I want to know if it is worth it. I was considering a SRT but it's too expensive for a intake. If anyone installed the K&N I would like to know how it sounds. My friend has the srt and that's too loud for me.

Assuming you're talking about a 400...a slight whistle when accelerating, about as loud as someone whispering in the cabin. When the radio's on, you can't hear it. I like the sound, and the wife doesn't mind (she picky).
If the intake is the only mod you plan to do, skip it. If you're doing an exhaust, SAFC, headers, then definitely do it!

I have a 430 so like Frankdorn said.. assuming its a V8. I don't get a constant whispering with my Injen (similar to the K&N,open air filter with a intake pipe) When I do hammer down though it makes a whispering\sucking sound. Its great! I don't think though any open air intake is any louder than another.

I have a gs400 and installed K&N after my Tanabe Hyper Medallions.
It added a much deeper, gurgling throatier sound to the exhaust than without it. Sounded much more powerful after the add on. It makes a slight whistle upon acceleration. good stuff. Very subtle under the hood, which i like. The SRT just stands out wayyyy too much for my taste

I had the K&N installed on my gs4 for about a year. When I first put it on it was kinda nice; a bit growly, a bit raspy. After a year it got a bit annoying. It just seemed more raspy than anything else. My exhaust is all stock so the open intake doesn't help a whole lot. Its fine when you are wide open throttle, otherwise you actually loose some driveability. I prefer the driveability and quietness from the stock closed intake setup. If I find a set of headers and a nice exhaust I might try the K&N again but for now the stock setup is better for daily commuting.

I just installed it and you hear a whistling at lower rpm but when you get on it, it gets a deep growly sound. It is a little strange sounding. I am not used to this since this is my first 6 cylinder, i am use to modifying 8 cylinders and the noise is much different.

Well K&N doesn't make an intake for the GS300 so that is why I went with my set up and plus it is a couple hundred cheaper haha.. And honestly I don't think the pipping matters, all intakes will practically do the same as long as the filter performs. Unless you're running an ecu.

You got a link to the pipe you bought? This seems like the harder route cause my friend said the ebay and k&n filter setup depends on MAF, pipe size, and where the pipes draw air from. Originally, I was leaning towards a Weapon R CAI since its cheaper than a K&N one. Everythings pretty much there with a full system and I can just bolt it on.
