1UZ and 2UZ engine swap info
I would like to know if anyone has real info about swapping a 2uz block into a GS400.
I want to do it or something like it , maybe even a 5.7? My main questions are :
- Are the 1UZ and 2UZ blocks compatible (ie. can I bolt the 1UZ heads on and drop it in?)
- Are any other toyota V8 blocks (5.7?) compatible?
- Has anyone done this, or anything similar?
I am thinking that sleeving the 1UZ block and boring it to 94mm will produce approx. 4.5L if that is the route I need to take , or maybe I can use the 2UZ crank and sleeve/bore it to get close to 5.0?

I have also been researching this a lot as well.
the 2uz has a stronger block, but it about 100lb heavier, it has weaker internals though, so you would have to swap in the 1uz/2uz internals. Some argue the 100lb is too much and you get no gain at the end of the day to offset the extra weight over the front wheels. the 1ux/2uz has very strong internals, but a "weak" block. You also have to consider the engine is already making 300hp at 4.0 or 4.3 litres, so even if you wanted to go to 400hp, that's almost 100hp/litre which is challenging if you are running NA, if you are boosting, then no problem, but you have the block/internals challenge. Apparently there is lots of room to overbore any of the uz's, which is great. Any engine into the 3uz will be a challenge from the electronics.
what I have concluded so far from my research:
up to about 500hp, use the 3uz/1uz and mod it.
over 500hp ish to 1---hp use the 2uz and mod it
I don't know if they are drop-in compatible, but it looks like they are, you may need custom headers, but you should be doing that anyway. I'm pretty sure they all bolt up to the tranny, and the mounts line up.
1uz are cheep and plentiful
2uz are more expensive and hard to find
3uz are very expensive and even harder to find
