Custom exhaust Q's

Custom exhaust Q's
Ok...I'm definitely going the custom route to do a cat back system...using mostly Magnaflow parts. Sure could use help with answers to these questions:
1. What is our stock piping diameter? Which would be better in terms of not losing torque/low end....2.25" or 2.5" piping?
2. Am leaning towards Magnaflow 14829 muffler which is 5x8 body and body length of 14", total length with tips of 24". Would going to a longer body of 18 provide added benefit assuming I got shorter tips and could squeeze it in?
3. Will replacing OEM cat converters with Magnaflow help overall?
4. Am considering Megan B down pipe...would this tie in well with everything else I'm considering.
I can buy the 14829's with tips and the Magnaflow cat. converters for about $320 delivered so I think I'd be ahead of the game over a package kit like Tanabe and Apeixi. That still leaves money for custom work and materials....
Thanks....John

A PROPERLY built system would probably use a single 2.5" center pipe with 2.00" primaries. Care must be taken for the location and severity of bends and most critically the transition areas. Built incorrectly the above sizes may flow worse than stock. Most imported and or built aftermarket systems use pipe sizes more suited to turbocharged applications.

you are aware that since your not planning on turbo'ing the car that the exhaust wont do very much in the way of power for our cars. the intake and re-mapped ECU do more as far as gains in HP. so really your not gonna see much difference with 2.25 or 2.50 piping. you might as well save some money and just get the mufflers for sound? IMHO
I got Greddy axel backs and not a huge diff in HP

I'm just looking to couple a nice sounding catback system with what I already have. By nice sounding, it would be similar to Tanabe MT or Apexi WS. But if I can save a couple hundred bucks with a custom, I'm not brand conscious.
Still would appreciate some answers to my questions as it seems to be in line with many of the exhaus mods I've read about. Thanks.

Im in the same boat as you man. I know a cat back exhaust wont help much with HP. So what im going to do is replace the stock mufflers with borlas and throw in my old x pipe, while trying to keep as much original piping as possible. But do you guys think not removing the resonators would make it quiet?

Since you plan to stay NA; I wouldn't go larger then 2.5" piping and I would consider some quieter mufflers; the magnaflow's can get very loud and have a good bit of drone. I suggest some Apexi WS Mufflers; or just bite the bullet and get a Tanabe Medallion Exhaust which would be cat-back and call it a day.
