75w-90 is a pretty universal weight for gear oil on almost all diffs that sees daily use. But the different weights are for people who use their cars for different purposes. The first number in the gear oil means the pouring consistency that it has when cold. The last number is the oil consistency when it is at full operating temperature.

thanks

My MAIN goal is to have the BEST protection diff fluid with the lightest weight (still suitable for my location's climate range) that would have the least power drag (or inefficiency).

I don't want to have a molasses thick diff fluid that would create even worse gas mileage than I am already getting and rob me of power.

No, it does not. The factory Torsen LSD requires API GL-5 SAE 80W-90 (or SAE 90). Only TRD LSD (clutch type) requires 80W-140 with friction modifiers, but it did not come installed from the factory.

Definitely go with the 90...but the 110 offer extra protection with good fuel efficiency. I don't think you'll go wrong with 90 as others are using that too in the diif w/LSD.

go amsoil

Believe what you will but I've always been told by Curt Aigner that the stock factory diff uses 80w-140 and have found that it works best for all racing application that I've put it to. You also know that the higher operating range is good for track use since the oil won't break down right?

Like I've said in the previous post, toyota recomends a 90w non synthetic oil which is much much thicker than a pure synthetic such as amsoil. I'm not here to debate who's right and wrong. I'm just stating the facts from all the years of tracking and friends who have done so. If you ever get a chance and compare an non synthetic 90w oil to a 80w-140, you'll see the difference in how much easier it is to pour the pure synthetic oil.
