Default 2GR-FSE vs 2JZ-GTE

I plan to chang engine for my IS250 RWD.

So, which choice is better between

2GR-FSE (IS350 engine) N/A 3,500cc
2JZ-GTE (Supra engine) 3,000cc with twin turbo

How are you planning to get the rest of the car to work?

The IS350 engine will be confused by the fact you don't have VDIM, or the correct transmission.

The 2JZ simply won't work with any of the OEM computers or systems. One other user had over $50,000 into trying to get a 2JZ to work in his IS350 (plus the cost of the car) and still didn't have everything working at last report.

I thought the transmission on 250 and 350 are the same.

For 2GR-FSE, my freind can find IS350 which got an accident at japan and support all part of engine with their transmisson.

For 2JZ-GTE, more easily by just plug out the oem computer and change to use manual transmisson.

Normally, 2JZ-GTE is more favor in my country. But just to get some idea about IS350. Because IS350 was not available in Thailand.

this discussion has been revisited several times, but nothing ever's come of it - at least not yet, as some have been led to believe.

fyi, my response was to the "turbo your car" post.

the 2is w/ the 2jz in the youtube clip is a pure one-off drift car project. i'm sure it wasn't cheap, and nothing else inside the car worked.

however, if that's what you're aiming for (one-off drift/race car), best of luck.

If he can get the engine and transmission that'll help... but you still have the problem that the IS350 computers will expect the car to have VDIM, and the IS250 prior to 2009 models does not.

You can put a 2JZ with the manual 6-speed from a supra or something in the car, and make them work... but nothing else in the car will (like, say, the dashboard, climate system, traction control, ABS, locks/security, etc, etc...)

Falkens drift team did the 1-off car... they had to install custom gauges, and removed all the power/luxury features since they didn't work anyway and it was a drift car so didn't need them.

How about the Supercharger kits? My friend just check with Rotrex that they can order supercharger kits for my car.

Now the stock car of IS250 have 212 hp. So, how many hp they will gain from supercharger?

The max speed that I had done with this car was 231 km/h (by Garmin GPS) or around 240 km/h (on car speed meter.)

Only place I know that makes a 250 supercharger kit is that place in South Africa (not sure if that's who you're talking about).

Car is electronically limited to about 240 km/h (at least in the US) so unless that's not true of overseas cars more power won't get you any faster.

The US supercharger kit LMS offered added about 50 hp to the larger displacement IS350.

The TOMs kit in Japan doesn't get much more than 50 hp either on a 350 (again they don't offer a 250 kit).

VDIM is a seperate unit isnt it?
only thing that needs changing to 250 to 350 is just the engine ECU

Sure. Only if you ignore the other 5 ECUs talking to the ECM.

I have heard of a company in florida that will take your car and 15 grand to install a built
2JZ GTE. Im gonna look into it. In my opinion right now there isnt that much that can be done to the IS350 engine without having to spend alot, alot, alot of $$$.
