FI GS4XX - Performance results question; a true mystery

Hey, thanks for the IS430 dyno graph. I will say that this is probably one of the more productive disagreements or conversations on the board, I think we all can agree on something here. I wouldn't say NOT to look at the dyno or 1/4 mile results because that is a standard test amongst automobiles, I mean there are more but that is a basic test, like 0-60, slalom, 60-0, etc., yes they are all going to vary somewhat depending on the track, heat, humidity, time of day, tires, engine temp, air charge temp, etc. But that is why we don't run one 0-60 and call it a day, instead a car is dyno'd more than once and same with the track runs to give a more average time. I am not saying that those don't matter, they do very much so, but at any given point any one of those can vary for Bristol dragway. Yes, the track management is better, but again if everything is running at 100% you are going to lose valuable time. In saying that, I am agreeing with you guys, but I will say that we need to have a basic test to be able to say ok, this car is faster in a 1/4 mile than this one, or visa versa. I use a 1/4 mile time for just that a time on that given day, during that specific time, weather, humidity, etc. I guess the reason why I say that is because not every 1/4 mile is going to be on a track, with the new data loggers you can do 0-60, 1/4 mile, etc in your car while getting on the freeway or on some back road. The main problem is physics, power vs. weight, but I would bet the Getrag makes a difference.

It's just PLAIN crazy that a car (ex. E55 AMG) can run 12.6's all day in the 1/4 mile bone stock with 469hp or 375whp (assuming 20% drivtrain power loss) and being as heavy as it is...whereas the GS is substantially lighter and people putting down 400+whp (heavily modded and FI) and just making it into the low 13's in the 1/4 mile. It's not fair, I wish Benz had great reliability because it's truly amazing how well they put all that power to the ground; it seems like there is very little waste.

I have friends that actually have the gs400, is350, gs350 and I currently own a 06 gs430. I have driven all of these cars and I must say the is350 and gs350 is so responsive. The is350 is a beast to drive stock, if you like the jumpy response it has. The gs430 are smoother and has a very calm delivery of power. A lot of the response has to do with the direct injection and the way the trans shifts. I raced my buddy gs350 with my gs430 and it was neck to neck. If you can make the gs4xx responsive like the is350 or something close it will give the is350 a run for its money.

Youtube cuts it short right at the end but if you can go frame by frame you will see the time pop up at the end, if you want to take my word for it and not try to frame by frame it was a 12.03. I've also personally seen the full run on Mo's computer.
Either way, that vid was posted in 2007 however I want to say that run was made back around 2000. The car is running an A650 trans.
