Did you pull the code when the CEL was on? Unless you cleared the memory, it should still be stored in the ECU. If you haven't already, pull the codes and see what they reference.

Did you try to clean your engine by spraying it?

Sounds like one of your vacuum hoses are leaking. You should check to see if there are any cracks in the hoses... The second symptom when a car idle and is about to die is that your igniter chip is going bad.

(vacuum hoses are the hoses that are coonected to your intake.) The one that goes to the engine valve is the one you should check first.

I'm not sure if this is a similar issue or not, but I don't have a problem with my car about to stall out.

My problem is that the car doesn't move forward on it's own. Like, when I'm on the brakes and let go to move up a bit, the car won't do it unless I push the gas. Also, it sometimes feels like my gas pedal is heavier than at other times, usually depending on how hot or cold it is outside, but lately it's been constant.

I have a similar problem...although it's kind of an anomaly. Our 98 GS400 has been pretty much perfect, but my wife went thru a drive thru today, and as she was inching forward, the car sputtered very minorly and just died. But it started up again like nothing was wrong...and I took it for a test run and checked the basics and couldn't find any issue...no check engine light, but when it died, she said a bunch of lights came on the cluster...i wasn't with her so I dunno if a CEL popped up...but she did see most of the lights come on, vsc, abs, etc. Similar issues?

There's a relatively common problem with the 2GS's involving build-up in the oil, and clogging of the oil control valve, screen(s), etc -- sounds like it could be that issue, too. But, take your rig to AutoZone and have them pull the code -- then run a search here and you'll probably have the answer you're looking for.

I have poor idle, surging at low speeds, almost stalling..running like crap. Plugs, timing belt, water pump, vvt-i pully(new) , pcv valve all replaced 5000 miles ago.My code is 1349...having the same issues. Local mechanic dont know. I say OCV(oil control valve). Ordered one today. Keep ya posted.
