GTE vs LS1

Yes it will bolt up just fine, the locations of all the accessories/intake manifold/bellhousing bolt holes are identical on ls1/ls6/ls2/lq9/lq4/ and the 5.3

guys...you don't need to just look for a ls1... you can do a lq9 or lq4 = 6.0 iron block for cheap. I'm building a new motor for my turbo silverado. Getting a 6.0 iron block and stroking it to 403 ci. Building it for boost, with headwork will run me $3k. I'm building a 4l80e tranny for less than 1k. All motor with my cam is going to be close to 500whp, 700whp with boost... check out performancetrucks.net to see what some of these truck guys are building for cheap.

I NEVER post pics of my car. However, if you search through my threads
you will see that I discuss about my build.

i have been doing alot of reserch for this and the ls1 swap is still cheaper than building a 1uz and getting a custom flywheel and clutch set up for it. so my plans are getting a lq4 long block for a 1,000 stroker kit for 2,300 that brings it up to a 427. then 250 for ls6 intake because the truck intake on the lq4 is too tall. then 1000 for l92 heads if not less and 1000 for a t-56 then another 600 in parts to rebuild and make bullet proof. then 100-250 for gms hot cam and 600 for valve springs and rockers and push rods. clutch pedal and master cylinder about 250. and 500 misc because you know youll run into hoses and other little things. so about 8,000 for a done up motor and trans thats cheap it cost 4000 just for heads on the 1uz. and this combo i should put out well over 500 to the wheels. i forgot a few things like the drive shaft so i sure everything said and done it will be a 10,000 dollar swap not including labor still the cheapest way to reach my goals...

This was an INSANE deal if I wasnt buying a GS400 I would have picked this up instantly

If you were every seriously interested in building a 408 or 402 LSX stroker you'd be 10X better off just ordering an already assembled shortblock than wasting your time and money tearing down a stock longblock, having machine work done, balancing, assembly, blah blah, blah.
A 427 6.0 build typically frowned upon because with a 4.25 crank VS a 4.0 crank they cannot withstand any type of power adder due to the paper thin ringlands and the insane stroke makes it a major risk to take it to any decent RPM.
Also an LS6 intake will only work with cathedral port heads, 806's 241's, 243's, 799's etc, It will not even bolt up to L92 (rectangular port) nor function with L92 heads

However, looking at your car which looks nice the GTE might be a better option if you are into the the show seen and when you want to sell it later down the road $. Trust me even if you drop a LS motor in your 4000 pound car (body kit, stereo equipment and big rims) your car is still going to be slow unless you boost that engine. Some might say add nitrous to the LS but you can do that to a GTE or NA-T so that is a mute point. I went Na-T because I wanted all my features in my car to work. Traction control, cruise control, no cell light which I accomplished. The car drove like stock until I got into boost, the only thing was the loud exhaust. If I wanted I could quite that down by going back to the stock exhaust and put in a electronic cut for when I need the exhaust to flow. For the record, I have a Nitrous SS and a supercharged SS under my belt.

A GM Hot Cam is a complete POS. Its mild as **** in a stock 346 motorand uses lobe technology that was developed back in the late 90's. A custom spec'd cam is a necessity with a nice stroker longblock.

One a side note: I would like to do a little advertising, this weekend on powerblockTV (which is a joke), they dyno'd and installed an 'E-Rod' motor, which is a base LS3, with some serious power to boot. It leaves the factory with something like 450hp 424tq, and is 50 state emission legal. With a little timing, headers, etc, it made just shy of 500hp/tq Now that's a platform to build on.

I think your thinking about the 408ci build, Here's a great article that shows them putting together a little LQ9 408ci build. http://www.gmhightechperformance.com...ild/index.html With a healthy budget, of about $12k they built this beast that puts out 554hp and 508tq. Now for ****s and giggles, I would like someone to say how far would $12k take you in a 2JZ, because I don't know, I'd guess along way... but the thing is that the 408 starts at 550hp, then you can supercharge it, turbocharge it, run nitrous, etc. than your around 700hp, and that's all across the entire RPM range, not just above 5k Rpm.

I almost bought a 5.3 out of a Suburban yesterday because i was going to get a steal on it as the motor didn't turn over, but I decided I have enough on my hands already and will save that for another day.

They dyno'd the package complete with factory exhaust manifold and catalysts and exhaust pipe.
Thing that pisses me off is the whole "carbon footprint" deal. Give me a break. Test for real pollution and fuel economy. I want clean air and water but don't want political manipulation.
Anyway, the engine with catalysts, iron exhaust manifolds, small pipe, 93 octane fuel made 496hp @ 6300rpm and 440tq @ 4900rpm. That is 66hp and 16tq more than it is rated.
I wish they had thrown it on their chassis dyno.
