GS400 Intake Shootout Write-Up
I hired a new webmaster for ClubLexus so these kind of articles can be put on the front page, but until then, I will have to post the results this way.
Also, I'm still improving my writing skills. So, please, refrain from flaming me in public.

Ethan - These are interesting plots. I assume you have more story to tell like why not ECU on WR? Did the Apexi guys bail out or is there going to be another round with the Injen and the SAFC? While the SRT has the bigger numbers it is surprising that the WR has so much more low (say less that 4100 RPM) power and torque. If they are both roughly the same length, looks like the WR is slightly smaller diameter or they know some other trick to increase velocity at the lower flow. Sure looks like WR would benefit from some deburring and little better job on the install instructions. Must have been one hot, long day...

Ethan, Ok so I figured out how to use my mouse and read the writeup. At least I know why no ECU on the WR. Interesting to note that the temperature didn't seem to have too big an effect from the first dyno runs. Stock first time (GS430, I know) 239.3hp and 244 tq with stock now 238.6hp and 234.8 for tq. First test, WR 245.7/259.8 (hp/tq) and now 237.6/250.3. Obviously SRT picked up to 247.5/248.6 but there is still that Injen out there at 244.4/261 with no ECU. So will there be another round or have you burned out?

Hehe...APEX did not bail out. This dyno was NOT for the GS430...the APEX w/Injen will be on another date...I just spoke with my APEX buddy and he's been in Japan anyhow...
At any rate, it's great to see those dynos...only 10HP WITH the ECU? Hmmm....
Also, I don't think we can use the GS430 and GS400 dynos too interchangably (??)...especially the Torque figures...the GS430 has more torque than the GS400 stock for stock...
However, the % increase should be comparable from the GS430 to the GS400...
I must say, for just a "intake", the Injen is pretty impressive.

manaray - Thanks for the info on the Apexi. I didn't even get down to the sound numbers. Ethan, I know the limitations of the Radio Shack meter (if that is what you finally wound up with) but what a great piece of data. Stock 95 db outside at WOT and the SRT at 110, WR at 106. Those are very healthy increases in sound due to the logarithmic nature of the db scale. No wonder some folks aren't thrilled listening to the racket their 8 or 9 hp increase made. Good point about the torque of the 430 but I would expect the numbers to be close, and they appear to be. Can't say I am an immediate candidate for an intake but I am interested in seeing what the Injen does, with and without the Apexi.

well if the difference was 20+ hp I was going to be pretty poed that this got canceld
i had one bid for $5.50 at one point

I don't think the guy comes to clublex too often
I still don't know why he canceled.. I asked him if he wanted 100- or 200 for it and he never replied.
for those of you thinking bout it

I posted this is another tread I started, but in case anyone wants to see what a 430 does with SRT intake, look below. I have a TC which accounts for the spike in Torque at the very beginning.

Ethan, great review......you broke it down very well. Now.....I need to vent! I'm assuming that you gave Weapon R at least a 1 weeks notice about the dyno right? How can any company live with them selves after the embarassment that just happened. WEAPON R sent you an intake pipe that was fabricated too long which wouldn't allow you to use it for the dyno. What! And then you had NO wiring diagram (pictures/instructions) to use for the installation of the ECU.....R U Kidding me? No one from Weapon R followed up your phone calls to get the diagram faxed to you during business hours. Great customer service! IMO this is a complete Failure and 0 points should have been awarded.....PERIOD.
If it wasn't for Martin to have a Weapon R intake (that actually works), there would have been NO dyno comaprison... well at least we got to see SRT's true #'s.
Again IMO, this dyno between SRT vs. WEAPON R has left me with an empty feeling with no ending. So much time and hard work went into this. What a shame..... Maybe 3x is a charm...
I know, I know..... I'm venting!
