Arrow Another eBay exhaust... opinions?

Found another eBay exhaust... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/06-09...ht_4167wt_1194

Was wondering if anyone's tried this seller (racing_gear) before? I just bought a house, so i shouldnt be buying anything for my car right now, but i kinda want to try this setup out just for the hell of it, i mean its only $139+$100 shipping (insane shipping cost). Worst comes to worst, i just post it on CL classified and take the loss.

why on earth would you purchase an Lexus, a luxury sport sedan for $30K+, an put a no-name eBay exhaust on it?

i wouldn't be caught dead putting this garbage on my IS350

you want an opinion, i think its puke

i espeically enjoy where it says "Instantly increase 15+ horsepower"

pure rubbish

Understandable comments... but to answer: It's out of bordem. I'd rather spend the big bucks on the new house, and other people on CL have had decent-good luck with eBay exhaust. Exhaust for our cars aren't put on for performance purposes anyways, they're more for looks/sound. I like the HKS Hi Power, I've just yet to be able to hear and see it in person, so the second one i posted looks similar, sound wise, no idea. This isn't a comment to start a huge debate about them, just my reasoning why I even searched eBay in the first place.

I agree, why pay more for something that is just for looks, when neither the expensive nor cheap ones add any noticable gains. If you do decide to get this, please post pics and sound clip! Good luck with the new house btw!

My only concern is the quality of the exhaust. It may look god for a year or so, but what if the metal starts to discolor or rust. If the quality turns out to be good, then you got lucky. If not, you'll be back to stock in no time.

$240 for this or pay another $100 - $200 for a used trusted exhaust. You could decide.

speaking the truth, other than fitment issue. Exhausts are actually not that expensive to produce. When you buy an exhaust for 800 or 1000 dollars, the actual cost to produce the exhaust is only around 100 or even less. So your bascially paying 700 for the design and the brand name. So, as long as fitment is good i wouldn't worry so much about the quality. As the company i work for, our products sell for as high as 200 dollars, and our actually production cost is way below 50 dollars. Other brands actually sell the samething as we do, for up to 500 dollars, that is over 10X the production cost!!! ( mass production pushes production cost even lower). The quality of our products are the same, its just different brand name.

So, i wouldn't worry too much about putting a cheap exhaust on my car, after all, most exhausts are around the same quality, what matters is how much you pay for them, how much actual gain do you get out of them and fitment issue and sound ofcourse =D

Just curious, has anybody wondered or even thought about the actual production cost of a product that we often purchase?

^^ Honestly, your numbers are way off, a $800 to $1000 exhaust does not cost $100 or less to make...

Generally Speaking....

I'm not even going to get into actual numbers.. But I can tell you from an expert experience, the material alone is way more then $100...
Now that's based on production in the USA and using the really Good material.
Then there are actual Labor Unit costs if hand built.

If you’re talking mass production units built in China or Taiwan, then maybe I can see a $1,000 exhaust costing somewhere near $100-200 to make.. And when I mean mass production, I mean 100-200+ units... Not all handmade & made with much cheaper grade material, which will not last long.

Joe Z

P.S. - I'm not trying to be argumentative, but really unless you know actual numbers.. you really just don't know...

With another $250 you can get a better quality exhaust. I mean $250 is less than a pair of sneakers. If it turned out to be crap you just wasted $250. So it comes down to if you are willing to take the risk and end up paying another $500 for a new one if you are not satisfied with the ebay one.
