Default Bottom end comparison. 93-98 2JZ and 98+ 2JZ VVTI

Hi!

I am new to this forum and was referred to this forum by a friend to learn more about 2JZs in general. At first I understand that in the beginning of the Supra in 1993, that the 2JZ-GE and the 2JZ-GTE have the same bottom end besides the 2JZ having different pistons to raise the compression. Then when VVTI came out for the 97-98 models, the bottom end were still same except the piston once again.

What really confuses me from talking to other people and visiting other threads, was that some will say that the 2JZ-GE VVTI found in the early IS300actually have weaker and smaller connecting rods compared to the MKIV supras. Is this true or false? If it is true, how much weaker are we really talking about? What about the piston compared to the MKIV supras? What about the 97-98 VVTI supras?

I just need absoulte concrete infomation about this as people on the net and and the outside world are fighting over this info. So once again, I heard this is one of the best forum to find out information on this. Feel free to bring up links to provide evidence! Anything about the 1JZ potential compared to the 2JZ is also welcome! Thanks!

From what I have read the rods are going to be weaker (also thinner in size) on all 2jz-ge's w/ vvti, and will be able to handle max of 500-600 hp. The pre VVTi 2jz's share the same rods with the gte's. The gte's also have oil squirters that the GE's don't. A common solution is getting GTE rods and pistons with a GTE head-gasket to lower the CR close to the GTE's. Many people will tell you to search because the subject has been beaten to death.

And if you do search you'll probably wanna do it in a section of the forum for cars that actually come with 2JZ motors... this is the second gen IS section, which all come with V6 motors.

There are alot of diff. b/t the two motors
The GTE has larger rods, oil squriters, forged crank, larger oil pump, lower compression pistons that are a denser casting process.
GTE is good for 900 HP on the right fuel and tune

The GE does not have any of the above but is still a good motor. You can get 550-600 HP with a head gasket and the proper tune

2JZ-GTE had the same bottom end specs from 93-02 (non VVT-i and with VVT-i)
2JZ-GE without VVT-i had the same bottom end minus oil squirters and higher compression.
2JZ-GE with VVT-i is the same, but with lighter (read: weaker) rods.
