I'm asking this because the f sport is on sale now at sewell so I need to make up my mind asap!!!
Thanks

A used, good condition, Tanabe.

Why?

For $400ish it produces the exact same hp all the other axle-backs do (relating louder to more hp is hilarious though, and something the short ram intake guys would be all over) so best bang/buck there. And an exhaust isn't something that stops working because it has a few miles on it, so buying used is the smart buy as long as it's not banged up.

Plus, it's the quietest, which is the best in terms of sound in my book. This'll keep you off cops radar if you live in one of those annoying states with exhaust-sound laws... Plus if I wanted a loud car I would've kept my 500 hp impala, not bought a Lexus.

Like many others have said, the beauty of the F-Sport is that it's CARB certified. CARB = California Air Resources Board. In other words, it's totally legal here.

My bad forgot to include F-sport haha, i mentioned it was CARB certified but i left it out.. lol, but Tanabe is a good choice as well, basically half the price of F-sport same gains..

but yeah if you like loud and are in California F-sport is your best bet,
although cops will still ticket you anyway and make you go to the State Ref,
sure you will pass and wont have to Pay the fine but its such a hassle

I admit I'm not an expert on CA law... so I might be way off here... but my understanding is that the EO number (CARB certification) means it's emissions legal.

I don't see how that would be relevant to any local sound laws though.

Yeah, decibel output is an entirely different animal, but as I recall the F-Sport exhaust is designed to be in compliance with most, if not all, U.S. laws (95 dB cutoff I believe). I don't think Lexus would sell a factory-installed option with it being illegal, but stranger things have happened.

Ok just my .02 cents here...

The F-Sport Exhaust does NOT come from Lexus with any "CARB Certified" labels or anything along those lines that says LEGAL in CA or etc....
(like the intake does)

All we have is this, per the Lexus USA description / e-brochure..

"It's an "axel-back" system that does not affect emissions compliance and complies with established sound-level standards."

We still have members here in SoCal that have already gotten ticketed for the F-Sport or Lexus HKS..
I'm sure they got it thrown out by now.. But it's still a process..

Best Regards,

Joe Z

Assuming you don't want tickets

Good catch, very interesting. I still don't think Lexus would sell something as a factory-installed option that's illegal. I read up on the pertinent CA law a little bit and as usual it's ambiguous, so who knows. Cops can bust you for anything they want nowadays.

But then you're stuck with a quiet exhaust, what's the fun in that.

Well it wasn't a catch.. It's a pure Fact.

I have known about this, since it came out in 2008..

You are not changing the pollutants or O2 sensor readings, when you are swapping out to an axle back exhaust system....

"Catch" as in you caught me assuming it was CARB certified. Maybe axle-back exhausts systems don't need CARB certifying while intakes do?
