Default Exhaust Issue... 01 GS300

Well i bought my GS about 6 months ago. I love it. Noticed the exhaust getting a bit louder a few weeks ago, took it to a shop and they told (and showed) me that there is a break in the stock pipe just after the collector where the two manifolds meet. Anyways, i found that Megan makes a replacement pipe. I ordered it, got it and went to install it but came across a problem.

I went to remove the bolts from the rear section of the exhaust and noticed that they were welded!

Has anyone else had this issue? How did you get around it?

Im guessing that i am going to have to drop the entire exhaust and just grind and cut as carefully as i can.

Any info is appreciated!

Not sure if this applies to the GS, but when I had my SC, either the nut or the bolt was welded in, and you had to remove one or the other, can't remember which. If both sides seem 'stuck' then its' probably just age and some elbow grease should do the trick with that one chemical that i can't quite remember the name of. Good luck, shouldn't be too tough.

If i remember correctly, the nut is welded on. I ended up taking a sawzall to both bolts because it was too rusted and i couldn't get the nut out. GL

On 01+, the nut is welded on. On 98-00, neither the nut or the bolt are welded.

Put some WD-40 on that sucker and use a trorque wrench to get them loose.

So you're saying the only way to break apart the exhaust on the 01+ is to chop chop? That's messed up if true.

Thank you all for the info.

I ended up taking the car back to the Exhaust guy today and he put it up on the lift.

It was welded. He said he can get them out but there is a chance that it may damage the rear exhaust section flange. Wont know til he tries. Hopefully it goes well.

Yes it is ridiculous that they are welded!

Don't waste your money and it won't damage the flanges.

Just put WD-40 on the Bolt and turn with a torque wrench.

They don't need to be broken off at all, although they might be a little rusty.
