DTC P0717 error code GS300 2003
Hi All,
This is my first post on this great forum. I'm wondering if someone would help with this:
I'm getting DTC error code P0717 when scanning the on-board computer, please note the Check Engine light is OFF (I do OBD II test with the monthly routine)
Research results: this is "Turbine Speed Sensor Circuit No Signal", So I assume it is the Input Speed Sensor need to be replaced! The car still runs, the shifting may feel a little funny especially on 1st shift, but is OK after that. I think leaving this that way may cause Trans troubles later on!
Anyone knows what is the part number? where to locate it on the car? the process for replacing it, tools, ...etc? and if this is a DIY job or better find a Transmission shop, or the worst case scenario.. the Dealer!
Photos would be of great help.
Thanks in advance for reading on,
Moore

Thanks for reply,
I've confirmed the MIL/CEL light is OFF, there is no visible indicator for far of any problem. I reset the codes, then drove for 90 miles for the last two days, then checked the OBD II again this mornings and it "Passed"! there is no DTC codes at all!
I can't explain this but may be it needs more time for the computer to set the code, or may be the Turbine Speed Sensor works intermittently, and will soon fail again.
I'll have a close look at this on the next few weeks by reading the codes once a week or so, and will let you know the results.
Thanks again,
Moore

Codes that don't trip the mil can be all sorts of things, including one trip failures or out of range signals. If they happen a certain amount of times they can become a fault code and turn the light on. If it sees the problem once, then doesn't see it for a while, the code will clear itself.
The ones you really need to worry about are codes that set a flashing mil light. That means immediate danger, harm to your engine can result in continued operation.

Hi all,
I just wanted to post an update: that after few weeks with no problem related to the above transmission DTC code, today the Check Engine light went on again after few minutes of driving, and even before checking the OBD I guessed it's related to transmission, because the car shifted violently to the second gear. I pulled over scanned the OBD and confirmed that it's P0717 again, and an additional DTC P0980 (Shift Sol C ctrl ckt high) . The shifting become smoother after 10 minutes of driving.
So I guess there is a problem with the Input turbine speed sensor. I'm planing to take the car to a transmission shop tomorrow. Will post updates.

P0980 and P0717 are stored on my 2004 GS300 as well every now and then. Any follow up
P0980 and P0717 are stored on my 2004 GS300 as well every now and then. Any follow up on the location of parts or possible DIY solutions to the matter? 0980: I hear you can't just buy the silonoids and have to buy the valvebody from Lexus. There are aftermarket though. Anyone use them before? Some have repaired them. Anyone selling? 0717 Not sure where this one is or if it's DIY friendly. Thank you for any help and good luck to others with these issues.

P0980 and P0717
Hi there, I had the P0980 code for a while now. Maybe a year. The transmission worked fine for the most part only a small kick between 2nd and 3rd gears.
I ordered the shift solenid C from Japan (TRANSMISSION SOLENOID VALVE 3WAY AT CVT 35230-30010) and was about to take my car to a mechanic next week or two soon as the part arrives.
You definitely could buy these Solenoids as a set or individually on eBay.
Anyway, with the P0980 I was experiencing a small kick in shifting between 2nd to 3rd gear and vice versa, but the other day I noticed the car shifting real harsh between 1st and 2nd and back to 1st.
I checked and got an additional P0717 code. Then it got worse real fast and I started to feel real bad kicks when slowing down to a stop. Since then I've been shifting into neutral soon as I need to stop or slow down
I'm wondering what you ended up doing with those errors. What all did you buy and change besides the shift Solenoid C and did you fix the problem?
If you don't mind giving a cost of repair info would help too.
Thank you!
