I'm not sure how TN laws are, but either exhaust is already not road legal with the deletion of cats, won't necessarily pass a visual test unless you pay $$$. On a sniff test, either should pass though. Just get the race exhaust haha

The "Street" version has a pair of cats, and the "Racing" version has no cats. What is TN's law regarding exhaust sound/decibal rating? In California, I get away with having the "Street" exhaust because it still has California certified cats, but it is well above the 91 decibal legal limit.

They just hook the ecu up to the car and put something on your gas tank, thats it, pretty low key here, plus ill have the primary cats, im running the invidia mid at the moment and pass fine.

The street version tested and passed in CA? Any modification to cats is considered illegal I thought. So visual test it will fail, but sniff test should pass.

Yup.

It's illegal to remove working cats in all 50 states, even if you replace them with another set of cats... federal law.

Some states are more likely to catch you than others though, but I'd be pretty surprised if CA wouldn't catch it. Far as I know CA doesn't require inspection till the car is 6 years old though, so no 2IS would've been through that yet (the 06s would be due soon since they came out mid-late 05)

I'd still consider the street version. Sure, it costs $200 more and you get 2-3 less horse power. The plus side though is that, as lax as TN may be, inspection wise you would be gambling on the sniff and possibly not make the visual either which would mean that you may end up with the street version regardless. The other reason, which was partially mine, is that (as far as I remember so things could have changed by now) if you get headers from PPE, they come with no cats so you lose those too and have no cats at all.

Hey bro I have been wanting the Joe Z withPPE headers for the longest but afraid it will be too loud. As for TN laws i think you will be fine as long as you have no CEL your good. Tell them the cat is up on the headers and you will slide on threw lol
