safe as long as you dont run overboard. i use them all the time

Safe? Check this video. The important part is near the end. The taps with a hammer are a meaningless test.

If you use ramps be sure and use wheel chocks on the wheels that stay on the ground.

But whatever you use would you try this? Once the care is raised put your back against the side of the car and give it hard push. If you won't or if you do and the car begins to shift then rethink the use of jack stands.
