Huh? An aftermarket intake requires a cone, not a drop in filter, so it's one or the other.

Some people are running an AFTERmarket PIPE using the stock air box with a drop in filter.

Default For those deciding on what filter to get..

I'd suggest looking at the test results form www.mkiv.com (a supra site) on 4 well known filters.

I just received my K&N drop in today from www.ajusa.com for $32.67 including shipping. If it adds more power, or increases mileage that would be a nice benefit, but I the main reason I purchased it is that it was less expensive than what I was quoted from my Lexus dealer for a OEM filter. Getting a premium reusable filter for less than the OEM filter was a no brainer for me.

you guys should try the toms drop in , more costly but it works ..its really a high flow filter and will give you just about the same results by my butt-o-meter than the intakes out there (including the srt) i know for i had the srt for over a week (wife said sell it ) so got the toms ported my oem box running duct from down by the fog light rammed directly into oem box for more cooler denser air ,, my throttle response is almost instant and pulls harder from dead stop (no sucking hot air scnerio like from all the other intakes,heat shield or not)pulls extremely hard from mid to high

Hey guys, I have the K&N drop in filter on my 98 GS300 and it seems like my car is eating up more gas than ever. Anybody knows why? Do I have to reset my ECU or anything? Thanks for the help.

Hi,

When I put my INjen hi flow air-filter in my car, I noticed a drop in mileage. It is back up now because my car is used to it. SO don't worry, you will lose mileage at first, but after a few weeks it should improve.

That is the result of more air going into your car, which means more power. I would recommend resetting your ecu so that your car can get used to more air going in.

if i get the drop in air filter now is that something that i wouldn't need if i get the k&n intake sometime in the future. it would appear that the intake has a filter already on it.

question both websites mentioned here have a k&n intake but they say they are for fuel injection performance kit. i don't have fuel injection.


is getting the drop in filter good enough i mean $32 isn't much

or are there additional benefits to spending $300 on the intake

If you plan on getting the whole intake, you'll be wasting yer money on the drop-in.
The drop-in is a mild improvement. The full K&N intake has a conical air filter and is a straighter pipe than stock, providing a less restrictive air path.

okay i love great sound, but i read a post that said they experienced a drop in low end power. i would think that delivering more air would increase power. if i got more power and great sound then it would go on my list of things to add to this car. if no more hp then i'll save that money towards a torque converter.

I posted my results with the RMM intake with Blitz SUS filter. I've had great luck with this filter but one thing I tell folks is to please tune the car with an SAFC or other fuel device after changing the intake. I doubt a drop in filter would cause any major changes in AF ratio but the intakes I've seen have and could cause detonation if not tuned.
