Question

My mechanic recommended buying a K&S air filter for my 98 GS 300 that would fit in the stock air intake. I have not been able to find one for the 98+ GS series. Does anyone know if they are available or what other higher-performance air filters would fit without having to replace the intake system?

Blitz also makes a direct drop-in type filter. Used to be caled Black Power filter, now it's just called SUSpower direct replacement type. It's available for the JZS 16#, so if you can make sure the airbox is the same as US spec GS, it'll fit.

If I have stock air intake box, will changing filter improve the performance and increase the noise?

Lightbulb filter and borla

Dennis,

you already ahve the borla, so by adding a filter like K&N would not increase the noise that much, according to several members. but the performance level would raise a notch, and you can feel the increase.

the problem is when i called KN a few months ago, they did not have one readfy for the gs430. you might want to check with them again.
summit racing sells the k&n for gs400 at $30, not bad.

let me lknow if you coming this direction, thanks.

Default damn you reply fast

I will definitely go to Rowland Height next next week so adjust the exhaust pipe. One of them is not centered.

Question Will GS4 filter fit GS3?

GS4will:

Thanks for the info. Do you know if the filter for the 98+ GS4 will fit a 98+ GS3? I have found listings for 98+ GS4 K&Ns and pre-98 GS3 K&Ns, but not for a 98+ GS3.

Why don't you give K&N a call? That is the sure way, plus it's free 1 800 number.

I believe the air box is exactly the same, so it should work fine. I have a K&N drop in filter. No more noise than stock by the way, and a slight increase in response.

MSDS also makes an intake for the GS. In my opinion, go with K&N. Just wanted to add for completeness

Default Noise a concern?

Are you going with the drop in K&N, over the Swift Racing's ECU/Intake set-up due to noise?

For the noise, I was thinking that lining the fender with sound insulation material for cars, would really cut down the wind tunnel noise big time. Even applying it to the inside surface of the heat shield.
