Default Is 280-290rwhp is350 possible?

I've been searching around trying to find out what kind of dyno results people get modifying their IS350. I have seen a lot of results but nobody in the 275-290 range. I would think this is possible considering the baseline in the mid 260s.

Does anyone know if this has been done and what was added?

The guy who tested the PPE headers put down 286 (or 281 depending how you read the dyno) at the wheels.

Note: he had a full exhaust system and an intake with it.

I'm shooting for 300whp this summer with the addition of ppe headers and mapecu3 (which will hopefully do what I expect). As I understand it, some folks were running an safc on their is350. I dont know what the results of that venture was but I'd bet dollars to doughnuts that the factory tuned it real conservative especially at wot. I bet there are more ponies in there than we think.

IIRC the SAFC was roughly a 7 hp gain, though only briefly till the ECU tuned it back out.... useful for a 1/4 mile track day, not so much in daily driving.

Could the headers be street legal if you used a midpipe with cats? Georgia only does a physical cat inspection and makes sure you're not throwing any codes. No actual smog test or anything.

They're not legal in any state in the US (that's why it says FOR OFF ROAD USE ONLY on their web page). That doesn't mean you couldn't get past an inspection by someone who doesn't know that, but it'd depend on the inspector I imagine.

You could always swap the headers/exhaust out a week or two before the inspection.

You certainly could, but unlike say an intake, it's a non-trivial amount of labor to do it (ie 6-8 hours by a competent shop, probably longer for the typical guy in his driveway... then same amount of time to swap back again after you pass).

So, bit of a pain to do each year... and if you strip a header bolt, or mess up an O2 sensor, or anything else that could happen during such you've got a non-trivial-cost repair in front of you too.

I could certainly see going through that trouble for something that adds 150 hp... 15? not so much.

Oh, believe me, I wouldn't go through all that, that's for sure! Just saying that it IS an option.
