Default Transmission whine in 1st and 2nd...

Disappears in 3rd gear on. I have searched but the search came up with so many reasons it seemed like people guessing. Does anyone have a better idea what is causing this and if is it catastophic in the future?

Thanks!

The whine is only in 1st or 2nd gear and as soon as it shift to 3rd it's gone.

The fluid is OLD! I bought the car from a friend and recently asked if he had changed it...nope! 145k, only topped off. My concern is what damage has been done if any and does anyone know what causes the whine?

I plan on exchanging 2 quarts at a time for the next few oil changes.

Trust me, once you change the transmission fluid it'll feel a lot smoother. Not saying it'll get rid of the whine but its a cheap fix. If it isn't cherry red then you need to change the fluid.

No fluid change in 145k !! Wow! Change it right away.

Question though, why would you need to top off tranny fluid? Unless there is a leak...

Are you 100% positive it's the transmission? Does it whine when you put it in on D and R ONLY and stop when you are on neutral or P?

It only whines in 1st and 2nd while moving. No whine in N or P.

I exchanged 2 quarts today and will do more next oil change.
