Default GS4 or GS3+SRT Turbo? New to CL...

Hey guys- I'm new to Club Lexus and could use some advice.

I was at my local Infiniti dealer this week to put $ down on a new G35 Coupe and was drawn to a car I've admired for a few years- a gently used GS400. After a quick test drive, my suspicions were confirmed- this is an awesome car. Needless to say (since I'm posting here at CL), I'm seriously reconsidering dropping $37k on a new G, and picking up a GS.

The big question now is if you were buying a new G today, would you pick up a GS400, or go for a 300 & spend the $4-5k difference in price on a Stage1 or 2 SRT turbo kit?
(I'll throw in the third option of pulling the trigger on the G35 purchase & put on my asbestos suit for protection)

Thanks in advance!

-Yelo

I recently purchased a different GS400. I debated your idea, and I guess it depends on where you live. I don't live in an area where I could have regular maintenence and tuning for a turbo application. So I stuck with the GS400. Although a SRT Stage II supercharger still sounds VERY nice to me!!!

You forgot another option. GS400 Twin Turbo.

If you are considering doing turbo on GS3, why not just do 2JZ-GTE swap? It has a lot more potential and more shops are familiar with that other than SRT turbo.

After reading Marken's (from SRT) kills, I'd say GS3T

GS 400 cause is is FACTORY. I don't have to worry about any maintenance issues. It already beats 9/10 cars on the road .

If you know a lot about cars and have a mechanic and shop you can trust, the engine swap is for you. Otherwise, GS 400 gets my vote.

gs4.. cuz right now you can put intake, ecu and tc but then.. you have possibility to upgrade even more and yet you already have powerful engine..

you'll regret later if you dont take gs4 now

No disrespect to Marken, or the SRT setup, but the kills (so far)are nothing unusual for a (slighly modded) GS4.

He only has a turbo on it and no other mods? I wonder if he could pick up a little bit more time with a torque converter and other mods and addtional tuning. Based on the dyno numbers of the stage II setup, I don't think a GS4 would pick up the difference in hp at the rear wheels with simple boltons.

Someone mentioned a tt GS4. Isn't that option $12k+ for the first stage?

It is modified so it will lost some reliability. And you'll have a little more maintance too.

I voted for the G35 earlier. I'll modify that and vote for a turbo G35 if and when they come out. If not, the Z should have one in the future. And it is sports car not sports sedan. That makes a difference for some people.

So yelo, what are your thoughts?

Edit:

Smog certification...any in your state? That's one thing to consider with the turbo.

Ahhhh, go buy a lowly mustang and drop an incon tt setup in it. You'll smoke all three of your choices and be smog legal.

You call an E-46 M3 kill "nothing unusual for a (slighly modded) GS4" I don't think so... unless the GS4 has Forced Induction or NOS that's not going to happen. Marken's car weighs about 3750lbs with all the turbo plumbing, intercooler, etc... and has around 400hp at the flywheel, do the math, even a highly modded(NA) GS4 with 360hp(most I've seen on the NA GS4[no raised displacement] is 355hp) is going to be considerably slower. We are talking about 9.37 lbs/hp vs. 10.41 lbs/hp .

Easy killer...I don't think so.....

The M3 was really clean w/ VA tags, side skirts & the body style prior to the lastest version but definitely a M3 to say the least.
But just to counter offer, GS4 with TCs can sorta hang with the new, E46 M3 Shinchan has, and had a story about it in the Kills forum, but I can't find it.....

edit: oh yeah; here it is; a convertible, yes, they are a little heavier, but still....

Let's also remember the orginal question.....

yuppers. or look at it this way. 300 guys are no longer ashamed, and 400/430 guys are defending a crown. look at the numbers and it'll point you towards a 300 with a turbo. i mean, who doesn't want a turbo? some will say no, all will think "hell yeah"
