WS is synthetic and T4 is not. T4 is the upgraded version of Dex 3

I use Mobil 1 synthetic ATF. Did a drain and refill the other day. Shifts are way smoother now.

I was just reading, Mobil 1 ATF does NOT meet any Toyota specs (T4 or WS). There is something about it that isn't recommended, but why, I don't know.

For now I am avoiding M1 ATF in there. Maybe Amsoil, they are T4 supported, but M1 ATF for sure was not.

What I gathered is T4 is Dex 3 with something added, either more friction modifiers or something that was required by T4 spec. The Dex IIIH sounds like the base fluid for many, but some require an additional additive. There is an additive from Lubegard that will "upgrade", aka, add the missing ingredient to Dex 3 that will make it meet T4 spec. Lubegard is one of the few transmission additives that OEM's accept. Not sure all, but I know I read where GM had blessed it, and they are tough to accept anything.

This is the stuff: http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...0444&ppt=C0207

Back of the bottle clearly states that Mobil 1 is T-IV compatible

I looked up on their website last night, it says nothing about Toyota specs at all. Interesting the bottle is different than the website, which one would think has even more info.... Is T4 under JASO 1-A?

http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/...etic_ATF.aspx#

Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF has the following builder approvals:

Allison C4

It meets or exceeds the requirements of:

JASO 1-A
Ford Mercon V

Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF is recommended by ExxonMobil for use in applications requiring:

GM Dexron IIIH
GM Dexron IIIG
GM Dexron IIE
GM Dexron IID
GM Dexron II
GM Dexron
Ford Mercon
Voith H55.6335.3X
MAN 339 V1
Volvo 97340
Volvo 97341

Interesting. Wonder why the back of the bottle indicates that its compatible. I made sure that I read the back before pouring it in. I know of a few members here who have been using Mobil 1 ATF for years without any issues. So I don't know. It's my first time using it in this car though. Been using it in all my other cars without any issues. Maybe on my drain and refills I'll go with the T-IV from here on out

Might worth a contact to Mobil Oil and see what they say. After looking at the website I wasn't even going to consider Mobil 1 ATF. Modern day, people shop online and then go buy or even by online.

Have to dig somemore on it. I read some stuff at bobistheoilguy and that is how I found out it wasn't listed on the website as being t4, and not having a bottle handy I couldn't check there.

Not likely to ever cause and issue, but makes me wonder why they don't have on the web, but do on the bottle....

^ yea me too! I mean, I've read somewhere that Mobil actually makes the T-IV fluid. T-IV is basically Dexron III with some added modifiers to it for smoother shifts. Mobil 1 states that they are compatible with Dexron III. So it makes me wonder if Mobil is the company who supplies the T-IV, which is basically upgraded Dexron III, wouldn't Mobil 1 be compatible as well? Same manufacturer, who stated its compatibility on the bottle. What makes me feel weird is why did they suddenly remove it from their website? I'm not gonna worry too much about it, it was my first and I guess only, refill of the Mobil 1. I'll just keep doing drain and refills with the T-IV from now on.
