Default EXHAUST for my IS - question....

Hey guys, I've got a bone stock IS350. Now, I wanna get an exhaust on this car, as it is too quiet for me. But, also, i dont want an exhaust thats too loud where I could hear a drone on the highway coming from it.
I looked on youtube to find videos of many different IS350's with exhuasts on them, and all of them say "deleted resonator"... and all their comments was that it has a drone on the highway from removing the resonator.
Now, i was wondering a few things;
1. If i buy the HKS exhaust, and install with the stock resonator (without removing it), would i get an increase in sound, but without the drone? (is it worth it?)
2. Will I have to inform my insurance company? and would they charge me more or change my policy if i had to tell them?
3. Will it void my warranty with Lexus? as i still have the full and powertrain warranty... (when i asked my dealership, they told me that it would void my warranty, but i just feel like they are BSing me)

It wouldnt void your warranty.. its just an exhaust.. LOL..

But you should get the fsport exhaust!
there is no highway drone. maybe a slight "purrr" But with or without you can barely hear it..
Its only loud on the low gears, or when you punch it

that description is exactly what kind of exhaust i want. Obviously I want to hear it on the high revs, and even on low revs, i want it to sound nice, the only thing i dont want is an annoying drone on highways that is very noticeable.

The F-sport exhaust is MUCH mroe expensive than the HKS however, so i feel it would be a waste to get it.

Also, is it even possible to put on an HKS exhuast without removing the stock resonator??

1. HKS is loud. A lot of people complain that it drones, but it does sound super nice when you want to have some fun! F-Sport is probably what you want to look into though as stated above. Tanabe makes a good exhaust too, but its very quiet.

2. No. Insurance doesn't need to be informed of your exhaust lol

3. No. It will only void warranty if they can prove something failed because of you installing an aftermarket exhaust. So far, i've never heard of that happening to anyone. They are BS'ing you if they say it will void your warranty and If they try and say your warranty is void...

Great, that was very helpful information. I just need to know one more thing thats most important for me. What if I install the HKS with the stock resonator? wouldnt that make the drone go away? that reputation the HKS has for being loud is all with the resonator removed. What if i keep it on?

I would never get the Fsport exhaust cause its more than 450 dollars expensive than the HKS exhaust.

From what I hear, there's still drone. I heard the silencer kills the drone though, but then your losing the nice sound too.

He'd have to get it installed at a Lexus dealer to have warranty on the exhaust too. They charge a pretty penny for exhaust installation!!!

I have the F-Sport exhaust on my 2007 IS350 and I love it. It's loud enough for me and has a great sound, but there's absolutely no drone at highway speed, it's totally silent (unless I put my foot down).

The HKS Hi-Power exhaust for the '06-'08 IS350 is listed on HKS's website for $910. On Sewell with the CL discount a brand new F-Sport exhaust system for a 2007 IS350 is $1,076. I'm not sure where you're seeing the F-Sport system as $450 more than HKS, maybe you're looking at a dealer's price? In any case, you'd want to buy it from Sewell online: http://is.sewellparts.com/accessorie...2007/1798.html. To get the price I quoted, you just have to register with them and put in your Club Lexus ID, then you get the discount which takes the price to $1,076.

You could also browse the 2IS Classifieds section for CL members selling theirs. F-Sport exhausts come up quite frequently on there and can be obtained for hundreds less than new. Also many members are in FL, so you'd be in better shape for local-only sales.

From what I've read on CL, some people have had issues with the street-legality of HKS systems.

Lastly, there's no such thing as "voiding your warranty" with installing aftermarket parts. If you have a factory warranty and you install an aftermarket exhaust, then your original factory warranty still applies in full to everything on your car EXCEPT your exhaust system and anything that might break or fail as a direct result of the exhaust system. (As a side note, to have the F-Sport exhaust be covered by your warranty, it would have to be purchased new from a Lexus dealer (not Sewell online) and be installed by a dealer, both of which are prohibitively expensive).

I think a cheap M2 exhaust might do well for you. It's $300 on eBay brand new. Honestly, I think the HKS is fairly quiet even though it's one of the loudest for the IS. The F-Sport is the best sounding and is too expensive though. Regarding the resonator, it's on the midpipe, the HKS is just an axle-back, so only piping, mufflers, and tips. Nothing with resonators. If you do remove them by replacing them or getting a midpipe, it'll sound raspier. I got an Invidia Midpipe which deletes two resonators along with the stock exhaust, it has no drone at all, just a little louder in the cabin.

Thanks for the info. This was helpful.
Calvin: The reason why i said its 450 more is becaue on ebay motors there is an HKS exhaust for $772 with free shipping. When i looked at F-sport, it was $1225 with free shipping... so it really makes a big diff. I also started looking at Tanabe exhausts, which are even slightly cheaper than HKS, and i heard are much quieter, so i might look into those. Or if i could find a used F-sport, that would be perfect..

You will regret not getting the F-Sport exhaust. Hks Hi-power has too much drone and also has ricey canisters.. Order the F-Sport at sewellparts.com. Sign in as a cl member and it will be $1.076 or check the 2IS Classifieds section. I see one going for $800 used.

The hks is nice- loud and looks aggressive. If you put a rear lip, it won't look ricey at all. It has a good amount of drone on the freeway, but then again it is the loudest exhaust for the 2IS. If you really want the fsport without paying the super high price, save up some cash and wait until someone on the classifieds is selling one used.
