Default Turbo Migraine !!!!!!!!

Well I took the turbo sled out today to get my rim fixed and as soon as I did a 20-60mph pull I hear a loud pop coming from the left side of my car so I figured that it had to be a coupler. So I pulled over and sure enough it was well I decided to limp the car to the rim shop and the car was revving as if the trans was gone ,once in the parking lot I put the car in reverse and she would not go so a kid helped me push her back and I went into the shop to get a wrench to fix my coupler once fixed I decided to take the car home and take of the wheel and bring it back in my truck but on the way home my trans would not go into 2nd gear and Itried to ease off the gas hoping that would work and nothing this damn would not move I had to sit a few minutes start the car and limp her home. I had a check engine light with the code p0500 ( Vehicle speed sensor ) my question is how is this related to my trans shouldn't I have a p07xx code or something ???? Now every I would get a p1780 code ( Shift solenoid ) when it is cold outside or in the winter and my car would drive in limp mode until I turn off the car and restart it but I've had that problem ever since dec 05 when I first bought it I have not had that code in months WTF GIVES HERE !!!!!!!!! Might be time to sell

It makes sense youre getting the p1780. Obviously if its not shifting gears, that went bad. P0500 could have something to do with it too.

But the weird thing about it is this time there was no p1780 code just p0500 . When I get the shift solenoid code it is usually in the morning when it is cold outside like in the winter or fall.

The trans has a VSS and it is used by the ecu to know when to shift gears. Do not confuse these VSS sensors with the ABS Speed Sensors at the wheels that feed the Traction Control/ABS and feed the Speedo.

Could be a simple fix, there are two sensors one front and one rear on the trans, the one to check should be the rear sensor right by the tailshaft.

Thanks for the tip now here is the deal I took her out the garage a few minutes ago and drove it and I had to turn onto a main street real quick because cars were coming fast, the boost kicked in and it took off but after 1block she started slipping again like it's stuck in neutral but this time I pulled over and turned the car off and re started it and it would go into drive but it felt like it was in 1st gear no cel and no pending codes and my speedo is working but I have this crazy whining noise, maybe I chewed up my sprag gears. But I am going to check that rear sensor this weekend when I'm off.

It's sounds like the transmission speed sensor issue. I had a car here once with the same issue. The transmission would slip like hell. Easy fix, just a sensor on the side of the trans. The sensors don't go bad very often, try looking under the car to see if any of the plugs on the trans came loose.

Thanks Jeff I was wondering when you were going to chime in . I remember reading your thread in my is about your trans going bad and your symptoms sound identical to mine, so I will check both front and rear sensors.

Here ya go, I took an actual trans pic and labeled it..

I had a VSS go out in a previous car I had for a while (not a toyota) it would drive fine sometimes and sometimes it would not shift out of gear. Replaced the VSS and totally fixed it. Although that car was a dead givaway because the speedo was also feed by the same VSS, so when it wouldn't shift or was driving funny the speedo would either drop to 0 or dance all over the place very erratically.

And here is what a functional one reads with the meter set at 20k Ohms. Might give you something to go off if you have a meter handy.
