Thanks for the explanation and pictures, GiantsFan - that was very helpful

Besides physical differences, what is different in terms of what they do performance wise, etc? Is Cat-back more expensive than Axel-back since it's longer?

Thanks

Cat back would give you a few more HP, yes. And they are usually more expensive.

I just noticed the trend, since I'm new to modding as you can tell and there must be reasons why that's the way it is. Like you said I'll do more research

Anything beyond axle-back is illegal for one thing.

For another it only adds another couple of hp and costs more.

Start with a lower cost intake in exchange for the exhaust, and see if you like the results first. I love my intake, and I'm satisfied with just that for now. It might tide me over for until the "bug" hits me again. LOL! Even my fiance says it sounds nasty when I do a ricer fly-by!

^ Haha, none of my girl friends like the way my car sounds right now, but what do they know I already have a F sport intake . . and was going to go with invidia plus something else. But since midpipes are illegal it might be too much hassle to deal with so sad

Go with the F-Sport Exhaust like GiantsFan stated. I recently put mine on and love it. I also have the F-Sport intake. Both mix well.

+1 an intake alone won't do anything unless you go above 3k anyway. pair it with a fsport exhaust
