I forgot I took a couple of pics a while back of both the stock and Supra differential when I installed the 3.76 LSD unit.

Much has been written on this subject. So here is some more.


Unit installed
3.76 LSD Supra Twin Turbo Automatic unit.
Year 94, years 93-96 are the Worm Gear Type -the preferred units.
97 and up went with the Helical Gear rear end

Anyways, install was 2.5 hours on jackstands while watching Kpax so it could of been done in shorter time.

Exhaust does need to be dropped.

I have stomped on it well over 200 times since the install and NOT ONE TIME have I hit the rev limiter.Shifts now at 6200 rpm vs the stock 6000. Car also shifts much harder into second.

Tires are stock 17" with 265/40/17's in the rear.

My engine mods:
Magnaflow exhaust
KNN panel filter

GTECH TIMES
Before 0-60 in 6.1 seconds
After-remember the extra shift to 60- 6.1 seconds-the same time but the car is much faster
1/4 mile-before 14.4 at 97mph
1/4 mile after 14.2 at 98 mph

I have also noticed that the car is quicker while cruising because once at WOT the car drops a gear as usual but at a higher point on the powerband-more HP-more TQ.

My experiences have been identical to yours, but w/o official times.

How can one tell what MY diff they have? Is it on the case somewhere, or perhaps written in a code on the box?

I'm assuming its cheaper than the aftermarket LSDs we see on here, so how much? Is it still a valid Toyota part number to order? Can my dealer put it in my gs430?

Can you install the FD gear with a different LSD? I want to use clutch type unit instead of the gear type Toyota unit.

TRD makes a clutch type LSD. Do a little search and you'll find plenty of discussion.

I think what Guru is asking here is if you can use the 3.76 final drive gearing with a clutch type LSD (like the TRD). Good question - and one I haven't seen asked in previous posts.

I have found themfrom $350.00 to $900.00. I believe someone is selling one over on the Supra Forum site. Just place a WANT ad over on their forum.

Yep that is correct although I'll be using an ATS carbon LSD. Smoother, lasts longer, tougher and a LOT lighter than the TRD unit.

I use their carbon clutches a lot and they work fantastic! ATS and Kaaz together make up over 90% of the LSD production in Japan and I'm sure one of them make the TRD LSD unit. I sell the carbon LSD for $1600.

John - Not sure about your quick LS but the GS speedo reads off the ABS sensors on the wheels so as long as U don't change the overall diameter of your wheel/tire combo ( think Plus1; Plus 2. etc ), then the speedometer remains accurate. I've double checked mine via the Interstate mile markers as well as a friend's State trooper radar. BTW - that was a "buddy" radar thing & NOT an actual speeding ticket!!!!! :eek:

Really? That would be very cool as that was one of my main concerns about changing gearing. Hmmm... going from 3.27s to 3.76s would give me 15% MORE TORQUE
